i. 1830 newspapers were only four pages long 6 cents each and few papers depended on circulation for profit

ii. 1830s technological changes in Europe increased supply of paper (made from rags) and speed of printing presses (10x as fast)
a. James Gordon Bennett applied this technology o introduce the penny press
