1. Introduction:

The economy of Bangladesh is primarily dependent on agriculture. About 76.61 percent of the total population live in rural areas and are directly or indirectly engaged in a wide range of agricultural activities. It sustains the livelihood of rural people and plays the principal role in building their household food security and meets all the needs. The agriculture sector comprises crops, horticulture, forests, fisheries, and livestock sub sectors. Grain industry, Jute and textile industry, Sugar industry, Tea industry, Leather industry, Frozen food industry, Salt industry, Small and Cottage industry, Fish industry, Poultry industry, Dairy industry, Seed industry, Paper and Hard- board industry are the representative of our agro-based industries.     Livestock plays an important role in the national economy of Bangladesh with a direct contribution of 2.95% percent to the agricultural GDP (Bangladesh Economic Review, 2006) and providing 15 percent of total employment in the economy. The livestock sub-sector that includes poultry offers important employment and livelihood opportunities particularly for the rural poor, including the functionally landless, many of whom regard livestock as a main livelihood option. About 75 percent people rely on livestock to some extent for their livelihood, which clearly indicates that the poverty reduction potential of the livestock sub-sector is high. According to Bangladesh Economic Review, (2006), the growth rate in GDP in 2004-05 for livestock was the highest of any sub-sector at 7.23%, compared to 0.15% for crops, and 3.65% for fisheries sub-sector. These changes have been prompted by a rapid growth in demand for livestock products due to increase in income, rising population, and urban growth.…

Of these, the average contribution of service sector, industry sector, agriculture sector to the GDP are 49.33%, 28.42% and 22.42% respectively. So, the service sectors contribute most of the development of national economy. The research aims are to analyze the comparative contribution of service sector with other sectors, the impact of trade liberalization of service sector and to provide the recommendations for development of service sector. It is taken a sample of ten years data of GDP from 2000-01 to 2009-10 for analyzing the comparison of service sector with other sectors (industry and agriculture). The average growth rates between service sectors and industry sectors or agriculture sector or total GDP are analyzed with‘t’ test. The average growth rate of service sector, inudsty sector, and agriculture sector are 6.17%, 7.49%, 3.21% respectively. The growth of service sector is more than the agriculture sector but less than the industry sector (result of‘t’ test).     Agriculture contributes 20 per cent of the Gross National Product (GNP) and 50 per cent of employment in Bangladesh. The prices of essential commodities have an impact on budgets of most of the citizens having fixed income. Rice constitutes a major share of expenditures for the poor. For example, rice accounts for nearly 40 per cent of expenditures for the poorest three-fifths of the urban population in Bangladesh. Farmers get benefit from stable rice prices because most of them are poor. The farmer is an investor in an uncertain biophysical environment where risk markets are imperfect and cannot guarantee access to credit when needed. These volatile conditions are often the result of inadequate storage facilities or a lack of standardised marketing agreements. In contrast, during 1990s the economic liberalisation in many countries led to increasing withdrawal of the government's intervention from the agricultural commodity sector, which made the agricultural prices dependent on domestic and international market forces.…
