Against Photoshop
Esteban Corral

5 October 2012
Is Photoshop What Your Eyes Want To See Photoshop is very common between teenagers and companies. Every time you take a look to a magazine, you could find models that had been photoshoped. I believe that photoshop should not be allowed. Everybody is unique, they should be proud of who they are and how they look. Companies should not be using photoshop to advertise their models. Models from different magazines had complained that photoshop is a source of an embarrassment for them. “I feel like it looks like someone else. I guess is not fair. It’s a bittersweet story. You look better, but it’s a lie” (Rebecca Adams). Models don’t feel like themselves when they are photoshoped. Photoshop is used to fool the public giving a fake image and different expectations. Photoshop or photo editing is well known and practiced worldwide. People even get obsessed with their appearance and the image that they represent. There have been cases where people get sick for trying to have a body of a Victoria Secret model. It’s sad how people worry about their body image instead of their health. People should start forgetting about the dreamed body perfection that everybody wants and start appreciating what they have. This controversial topic has been discussed in class. This is what one of my classmates, Kimberly, thought about photoshop. She said that all people is concerned about their weight. Reasons are a lot but the most important is the way people look. Kimberly had never made fun of no one for their weight. Friendship has nothing to do with is people is fat or skinny, that is something that people can’t blame other people for. Photoshop is a false image for the public and people around the world that have weight problems. Photo editing is an easy solution to get rid of all that stress and those problems that won’t let them feel happy about themselves. This technique is an image perfection thing that would never come true. Photoshop

Because many people are vulnerable about their appearances, it is best to cease use of photoshop on a model's body to keep from prompting people to self-harm themselves due to wrongful thinking that "they" can never be as beautiful as the model on the magazine. People are people, there is no need to cover up "horrendous" body fat or whatsoever. We all have body fat and it's all natural, so why use photoshop on people? What truly matters is the inside of a person. On the other hand, if image manipulation is used on something other than people, it is perfectly fine because a person is not criticized for their…

Female modeling has been around since the beginning of advertising and has been affecting the women in society ever since. Where this agreement usually ends, however, is on the question of how this use of photoshopping is negatively affecting young women. Whereas some are convinced that girls put the pressure on themselves, others maintain that the media is to be held responsible for exerting pressure to have the “perfect body.” It is sometimes said that Kim Kardashian, a well-known celebrity, is a role model for these young women and girls. Recently, Kim Kardashian posted a naked selfie, edited using Instagram, claiming that this act was self-empowering. Kardashian herself writes for her online blog, "I am empowered by my body . . . I hope that through this platform I have been given, I can encourage the same empowerment for girls and women all over the world” (qtd. in Filipovic). Basically, what Kardashian was trying to say here is that girls and women should love their body no matter what they look like. Kardashian and other celebrities like her are speaking out for body image and are trying to help girls realize they don't have to have a flawless body; however, these flawless bodies, like Kardashian’s, are the types of bodies that are seen in advertisements for the fashion…

I have to say to the once that are against it that no one argues that they don’t look great while advertising something on television or magazines now, but as good as they look a couple pounds more won’t make a difference. In her article “Does ‘Photoshopping’ Images Hurt Teens?,” Kaitlin Menza wrote that “altered photos are false advertisements that warp our body image.” Even though we know that these images are not real, they can still make us feel down about ourselves. A big issue that has risen over the last few years have included the images of “skinny” models. These images, in many cases, show models that appear to be skeleton thin with bones protruding in their faces and on their bodies. Magazine covers often show celebrities and models who are size 0 or 2 and leave behind an impression that in order to be a model, celebrity, or even beautiful that you have to be the size of the models in the advertisements. Over the years there has been stories published about what a model had to do in order to be the size that the designers wanted them to be and sometimes this led to anorexia, bulimia, and drug use in order to stay the size that they…

We rarely see real women portrayed in the media. This is why most women have low self-esteem and are unhappy with their looks. Women yearn to look like the women on the covers of magazines, and on the front pages of fashion websites with, as stated by former Cosmopolitan editor Leah Hardy, “ 22-inch waists, but they also had breasts and great skin. They had teeny tiny ankles and thin thighs, but they still had luscious hair and full cheeks” (Hardy, 2010). These women don't exist, but we still strive to look like them. Photoshopping in the media is not only altering images, but it is also altering the definition of beauty in our minds. It gives people the idea that if they don’t look like the people on those covers, they wont fit in with society. Magazines and social media sites need to realize that they are planting fake ideals, almost impossible to achieve, into young girls’ impressionable minds, and they are changing their concept of what really is beautiful and…
