1. African Savanna
Temp: 60-85 degrees Fahrenheit
Environmental issues: 1.Delayed rainy seasons leading to soil erosion and the potential for flooding. 2. Animal populations are being threatened by poaching and disease. 5 facts:1. It has one of the highest concentrations of large predators in the world.2. Each year over 1 million wildebeest travel in a circular migration according to seasonal rains across the Serengeti planes. 3. Lions in the African Savanna can weight anywhere between 260-575lbs. 4. Elephants live up to 50 years and go through 6 sets of teeth in their life. 5. There are miniature antelope that stand only 2ft tall and weigh only 11lbs. Justification: I picked this place because this is a large biome that takes up much of Africa.
2. Mediterranean Forests
Temp:59 degrees Fahrenheit
Environmental Issues: 1. High frequency of environmental fires due to human mistakes. 2. Threatened habitat loss by urban and suburban expansion. 5 Facts: 1. The 5 Mediterranean climate regions around the world occupy less than 5% of the earth’s surface. 2. Many plants in the Chaparral are called pyrophytes, or fire-loving. 3. Some plants in the Chaparral have flammable oils that will promote fires. 4. Chaparrals are home to many burrowing animals and most are nocturnal. 5. Most Chaparral areas formed where humans once destroyed forests and ruined soil. Justification: I chose this biome because the Chaparral harbors over 20% of the world’s vascular plants.
