Abstract
Now-a-days, websites allow users to do more than just retrieve information. They can build on the interactive facilities of of old internet to provide "Network as platform" computing, allowing users to run software-applications entirely through a browser.
Current project explores and implements a client/server based online Automated Fingerprint Identification System based on the Live Scan of the Fingerprint. The whole of the system can be broadly divided into following modules – fingerprint enrollment, Fingerprint Feature Extraction and storage, and Fingerprint Matching against enrolled Fingerprints of people.
A web-based user-interface is developed for capturing Live Scan and enrollment of Fingerprints. The web browser accesses the fingerprint sensor installed on client’s machine using the TWAIN interfacing standards, which makes this web-application independent

    - A fingerprint may be small and unnoticeable to the eye, and even look like many other peoples, but they are in fact very different. Every fingerprint has a different pattern that is unique and unlike anyone else’s. I compared two fingerprints and found that they may look alike from afar, but up close one goes one way, while the other does something else and completely different.…

No country has undertaken to build a national registry at the scale and accuracy as UIDAI initiative. Nature and diversity of India's working population adds another challenge to achieving uniqueness through biometrics features. Like other technology fields such as telecommunication, we do not have experience like developed countries to leverage for designing UIDAI's biometric systems. For example, the largest existing biometrics database in the world is one order smaller in magnitude than India's needs.…
