Professional Development Plan
Deciding on which profession to pursue can be easy or tough. It requires creating and accomplishing many goals. See I have always known which profession I will enter and it is the teaching profession. I intend to become an elementary teacher because I have always had a love for children and a passion to enrich their lives. I know I will face challenges throughout the course of college and programs to help me become a teacher. Some of these challenges may be tough while some are easy. In order for me to achieve my lifelong dream, I intend on doing every necessary task required so I can do what I am meant to do. I am meant to become a teacher who shows concern, cares, helps students to understand and learn, work with parents, and assure I give 100% to my teaching profession. My first goal for the next five years is to complete my Associates Degree in Elementary Education. Once I complete my goal of achieving my Associates Degree, I plan on working on my second goal which is to earn my Bachelors Degree in Elementary Education within the next five years. While attending college, I intend to work my hardest so I can learn every bit of knowledge I must know to finally become the best teacher I possibly can. I also plan to get more experience in the teaching profession such as intern in a school and use the induction programs. These will help me get a better grasp and interact with students so I can get the experience I’ll need to enter my classroom and be successful. A very important goal I intend to accomplish within five to ten years is after achieving my Associates and Bachelor’s Degrees to work in an elementary school. To me it doesn’t matter which grade I teach just as long as I have the chance to fulfill my lifelong dream. I also have another goal that isn’t related to teaching but is very important to me. Within the next five to ten years my goal is to work on publishing a book of my poetry. I have been writing poetry since 1997 when I was 15 years old. Since then, I have many poems that I have shared with family and friends and even entered some into poetry contests online where I received awards. Being that I am now 30, I feel I have compiled enough poems to create a book that I can share with the world. People will be able to see and feel my expressions and views on love, life, loss, and dreams. Poetry has always been my form of feeling better when sad, stressed, or just to express when I am feeling happy. There are some important steps I must make in order to achieve my goals. The first step is to set achievable goals that I know I can accomplish. The second step is to strategize and plan. Coming up with a strategy on how to reach any goal is one of the most important steps to make. You have to figure out which tasks to overcome and plan a solid plan to make the goals happen. After strategizing and planning, I have to take action and write down a list of daily tasks to get closer to my goals. The final step to achieve my goals is to review my progress regularly. As long as I pay attention and review my goals, I can determine if I may need to make any adjustments (Marc & Vincent, 2010). This is the best way to stay on top of things and assure myself that I can reach my goals and create new ones as I accomplish them. I may face some obstacles while working on reaching my goals. Some obstacles could be to lose track of my progress toward my goals. This can happen if I don’t pay close enough attention to what I need to do or if I get side tracked and forget to add or remove anything specific from my goals. Another obstacle I may face is not being able to stick to my plan of action for my goals. For instance, I may have too much of one thing to do and not enough time to finish and work toward the plan I created for my goals. There are always obstacles we all may face and must k now there are ways to overcome them. As long as we remember why our goals are set the way they are, the more of a...
