Advantages and disadvantages of using nuclear power
For many decades the use of nuclear power has provoked incessant debates among various groups of people. Several scientific studies have shown that nuclear power is not nearly as beneficial to society as it might be imagined. But on the contrary, the use of nuclear power can be rather dangerous. There are some positive aspects of nuclear power as a source of energy. Firstly, nuclear plants have large production capacity, so it can satisfy the needs of many people. That is why it is very efficient to use nuclear power stations in countries with a big population. Secondly, the production of nuclear energy does not pollute the environment as it does not release harmful gases into the atmosphere. Moreover, with the uranium and plutonium long refinery run, nuclear ores can be an adequate substitute for fossil fuels that become increasingly scarce. Thirdly, nuclear energy can be used by countries which do not have enough natural resources to meet all their needs and provide them with enough amount of energy. On the other hand, there are certain drawbacks of nuclear energy use. First of all, nuclear power stations imply certain risks because the technology of producing and using nuclear material is not safe. Our generation perishes from the increased level of radiation and other negative consequences of Chernobyl and Fukushima catastrophes. What is more, there is always a danger that terrorists may steal nuclear material and will use it to create nuclear bombs or 'dirty' bombs. In conclusion, it can be seen that the use of nuclear energy has both positive and negative sides. On the one hand, it is very efficient, does not pollute the environment and can be used by countries without natural resources. On the other hand, the utilization of nuclear power is unsafe, there is also a danger of terrorist attacks and threat of creation nuclear bomb by different countries.
