James E. Porter’s article is reflected in Michael Kleine’s article “What Is It We Do When We Write Articles like This One-and How Can We Get Students to Join Us?’ for both authors stress the argument that no idea is original. Porter and Kleine come to the conclusion that texts are derived from previous texts, which is where the importance of plagiarism comes into play. Porter’s article can be related to Deborah Brandt “Sponsors of Literacy” in the relation of the influence outside sources can possess. Porter emphasizes the control of discourse communities where one gathers to interact with those of similar interest. Brandt’s idea of sponsors can maintain an effect on the sponsored in terms of the targeted area of interest they would prefer to cover. Discourse communities and sponsors interact in the form of involvement from someone other than oneself. Porter’s article is related to Kleine’s text because Kleine explains the “hunting” and “gathering” method for finding information, and Porter explains how older texts are gathered (or hunted for) to create a new work. That in itself also relates this article to Kantz. Kantz wrote all about using older texts to make a new one and that is essentially the main topic of Porter’s article.

In the article, “What Is It We Do When We Write Articles Like This One-and How Can We Get Students to Join Us?’ by Michael Kleine, Kleine talks about what he saw in the library one night as “nightmare vision,” discussed how students can learn to write research papers better by using hunting-gathering technique, and how teachers need to encourage writing.
Kleine needing to do his own research went to the library but was disturbed by what he saw happening there.
