UCD HOCKEY CLUB FUNDRAISING INITIATIVE
'Puck-A-Thon: 24 Hours of UC Denver Hockey'
The University of Colorado, Denver Hockey Club is the first club sports team on the Denver Campus. The team was granted club status by the UCD Office of Student Life. The 2010-2011 Season marked the inaugural season for the ice hockey team who ended with a respectable record of 6-18, playing club teams from Colorado as well as out of state schools. The club is a self-funded and non-scholarship team so players carry the cost of playing. Players had to pay about $1,200 for their first year, or about $600 a semester. The mission of the UCD hockey club is to provide the student athletes an opportunity to play hockey at the ACHA Division III level. The program prides itself on producing well-rounded student athletes who work just as hard in the classroom as they do on the ice. The programs works to not only create and foster amazing hockey players but works to foster an environment where the athletes obtain skills in character, leadership, and professionalism. The team now in its second season is working to get the word out about their club but they are still lacking in support. The team created a Facebook page to enhance visibility, which they accomplished with an increased fan base as the inaugural season wore on. The page provides fans with information on past and upcoming games, hockey events, and information on individual players. Although the Facebook page has helped the club is still in need of increased fundraising and promotional efforts. Therefore, as part of the ongoing effort to get the word out about the Hockey Team at University of Colorado at Denver, the Hockey Club we propose a 24hour hockey game entitled, 'Puck-A-Thon: 24 Hours of UC Denver Hockey.'
