ADHD Diagnosis in Continuing Education Adults
This paper will explore and explain three areas pertaining to the topic of ADHD diagnosis in Adults who want to go back to school. First I will discuss my chosen topic, and how I narrowed the topic down. Second I will discuss the research methodology I plan to use, and finally explain the criteria used to select the research methodology.
Narrowing down the research topic
The initial topic was ADHD simply because it is a label that seems to be placed on children who have difficulty focusing on the task at hand. It’s a label that is often abused and not necessarily proper in certain circumstances. It’s also a label that could be masking a much deeper problem with a child. Nevertheless, as appealing and interesting as this topic is, it’s still an area that has been researched redundantly and continues to baffle educators and parents alike. So I thought maybe I should delve a little deeper. This prompted research questions like…What if the person who has ADHD is not a child? What if the diagnosis was missed when this now adult individual was a child? How hard is it prove ADHD as an adult? What would make an adult even consider receiving testing ? The questions seemed to just go on and on. However I do think it is a very interesting topic that could prove very useful in academia especially during a time when so many adults are trying to go back to school.
Research Methodology
Now that the topic has been narrowed, the next step is to determine which research methodology to use. The research methodology I chose was qualitative because of the information I seek to get from my research. I want to know how the ADHD diagnosis in adults changed their lives once they were made aware of the impairment and if the diagnosis helped to explain a lot of the challenges they faced while trying to pursue an education.
