Broken Destiny

“Actions speak louder than words, but words are louder than silence.” This quote defines and guides my thoughts, morals, feelings, and essentially my life. Whether experiences are traumatic, emotional, alleviating, or joyous, everyone handles their experiences differently. There should be no comparison between individuals’ experiences due to that sole fact. I surmounted my pain yet, I have managed to apply life lessons on a daily basis.
Whoever is reading this, I want you to understand me as I would try to understand you if you were being personal with me. You may have gone through some tough things in your life and I’m proud that you are alive to read my story as I am proud of myself to share my story with you. I’m the type of person to share my experiences with people because it is my way of keeping my sanity. If I neglected to talk to family, friends, acquaintances and even strangers, I would most likely find myself miserable in a psych ward. People unfairly judge me for being so open with my personal emotions. I do this because you never know what someone is going through; there is a sense of vulnerability that I feel comfortable with. With that in mind, I love to receive positive feedback from people who have been through hell and back and who are alive and willing to share their pain without hesitation. I passionately attempt to understand people, allowing me to share compassion and empathy. When I was in need of empathy, no one was there. Thus I make it a priority to be there for the ones I love. Those who do not feel comfortable with making themselves vulnerable know that it is okay, everyone has their own uniqueness. Please, do not think I’m some bragging prick that likes to talk about myself. Please, no. If an opportunity comes where someone needs advice, or inquires about my being or beliefs, this is my chance to

Everyone in the world can testify to their trials and tribulations but they are exactly what morphs and shapes us into who we are. The weak succumb to the poison and destroy themselves, but the strong understand eventually that where you come from and what you have been through does not define you. It is an individual choice you make to lay down and die or stand up and make something of yourself. Kari Patterson understood that. Since she was a little girl, she represented hope for a better tomorrow. Continuous negative events in her life was like putting black food coloring in hydrogen peroxide. Tina Mabry’s one solid message to the world is, “there are always options when you think there are…

It was Robert G. Ingersoll who once said; “The greatest test of courage on earth is to bear defeat without losing heart.” In other words, he is trying to convey to us that in life, it is how we deal with our failures, and not the actions we take during our high points that matter most. This is because who we are and how we act during our lows are what define us as people. In accordance with this quote, two examples in which this idea occurs constantly are Lorraine Hansberry’s controversial play, A Raisin in the Sun, and Harper Lee’s renowned novel, To Kill a Mockingbird. Let’s delve into these pieces of literature to thrust Ingersoll’s philosophy into light.…

“Your actions speak louder than words” explains how what you physically do affects someone more than what you actually say. On the other hand what you say can have different meanings, and what you do can change the way you’re stating something. Furthermore, the quote is similar to “Abuela events a zero”, explaining how Constancia promises her mother she’ll show her Abuela respect, but instead her actions show the opposite. The theme of the story, is respect or treat others the way you want to be treated.…

“Far better is it to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure... than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy nor suffer much, because they live in a gray twilight that knows not victory nor defeat.” In the words of Theodore Roosevelt, it is better to experience the sufferings and joys of life than to live without knowing both victory and defeat, it can relate to all of us, each and every one. Stating that all of life’s battles are checkered with many failures, and in order to triumph, we must first fail many, many times and get back up. It’s all part of being human after all, human beings make mistakes and fail time and time again nobody's perfect, but despite their own suffering they continue…

Every day we are given a fresh start; another chance to move forward in our lives and accomplish the things we thrive to achieve day to day. A new day can also liberate us from our past mistakes and provide us with a chance to change our ways. We are all faced with misery and misfortune at points in our lives, some more than others. We must recognize that it is not the burden in itself that shapes who we are, but how well or how poorly we deal with the difficulties. Sometimes misfortunes can be seen in a negative light; because it seems unjust, therefore we response in a negative matter, and become negligent to change. Overcoming tragic events is what truly counts, for we are meant to live happily and in acceptance that there are things that we cannot change. In many cases, individuals seem to feel as though they’ve lost an amount so great that they are unable to free themselves of the pain. This perspective often leads to further suffering. A Temporary Matter by Jhumpa Lahou and Kiss Me by Andrew Pyper demonstrate a loss of identity, negligence towards communication, and eventually leading to the destruction of a relationship.…

The saying that we all know from when we were younger about how sticks and stones may break our bones, but words will never hurt us, is a complete lie. Just by saying a nice word can make someone’s day go from hell to them feeling like they can overcome the difficult day, but that can be the total opposite too. Someone may be having a wonderful day, seeing how nothing could go wrong, until someone is quick to judge them, and their day can dramatically change from a good day, to a day where they start down grading themselves, sometimes to the point where they may not even want to live anymore. This relates to my life because so many people these days are quick to judge and jump to conclusions before they know all the facts. For instance in the book the Blind Side by Michael Lewis, many people in the society are very quick to judge character Michael Oher. He’s big, tall, black, practically homeless, is going to a very nice school, and his mother is a drug addict and abuses alcohol. Michael is a very smart young man, many just think that “he was ignorant, but a lot of people mistake ignorance for stupidity and knowingness for intelligence.” (Lewis -). Michael was being judged every day because of where he came from, he was different from everyone else, and that the school that he was attending was…
