Account for the popularity of social networking sites.
Can any one believe that two children lost 15 years back were found through Facebook? Yes, it did happen last year in California and a guy was arrested on the charge of kidnapping two innocent children. Over the past few years, social networking websites such as Facebook, Twitter and MySpace have exploded in popularity, especially among children and teenagers. Social Networking, a word so common among youngsters in the present days has somewhat taken over their world. It has become so popular among the hip and young society of today, that it has become an inseparable part of their life. Facebook, MySpace, and other sites have numerous benefits for the users in terms of interacting and talking with other people, and also provide comprehensive privacy and safety features. Social networking sites typically allow users to create an online profile and establish a personal network to friends, family members, and people from work and other acquaintance. These sites have become the common platform for everyone to find the people of their common interest and similar ideologies. We can even get recent updates from our close friends and family members so that we can stay in touch with each other. In addition, we can share photos, videos which help us to get the things updated among our circle. “Man is a social animal “quoted by Aristotle we must be socialized with these social networking sites but we must be aware about the misuse and try to get best from these social networks. We can support causes and links of interest. Some times back, a group named “Uniting Nepal” emerged which got support of more than 80,000 people for its works. The group was surprisingly able to unite youths for good deeds. Similarly, another group named “vikalpa”, which literally stands for ‘alternative’, was formed and through that page they kept on posting about the strike that prevailed in Nepal and its effects on the daily life and national economy.
