Kate Mesaros
Name: _____________________________________

D

Define the problem or issue:
Should I abstain from having sex right now.

E

Explore the alternatives or options. What are your choices, given these circumstances?
1. I can abstain
2. I can not abstain and have sex
3. I can choose other pregnancy prevention options
4. I can discuss the decision with my significant other
5. I can ignore the issue and see if sex comes up or not

C

Consider the Consequences. What are the pros and cons for each option?
Pros:
1. There is a 100% chance that I will not get pregnant or get an STD
2. If I feel that sex is what I want to do next then I would be able to have it
3. I would still get some pregnancy and STD prevention
4. We could decide what the best possible option is for our relationship
5. I would not have to deal or worry about this situation and it could limit my stress
Cons:
1. If my other and I think that sex is an option for us then we would not be able to have it
2. I can risk pregnancy or contracting an STD
3. There is still a risk of me getting pregnant or an STD even if it is low
4. They might feel differently and result in pressuring me to have sex
5. The issue could come up again so I should solve it right now

I Identify your values. What is most important to you, and how do these options fit your beliefs?
1. Safety- I want to protect myself from pregnancy or any STD's if possible
2. Intelligence- I know what risks come with sex and I should consider them
3. Respect- I have respect for myself and my other and I don't want us to pressure each other at all
D

Decide and take action:
For now, I choose to abstain

E

Evaluate and revise:
I satisfied all of my values. I don't think that we are ready to take the next step and it is by far the safest option for us. I know that I have no chance of getting pregnant or contracting any diseases based off of real facts and research.

It’s no secret that we all have sex. Every person grows up as an individual, learning things about themselves as they go along, as well as learning about others. We all eventually end up calling someone else our significant other, whether it be of the same sex or not, and we all end up making personal decisions about our sexual identity and actions as we progress through life. We define our sexual identities of something unique to only us and we acquire our identities with a mix of influences: biological, psychological, social, cultures, values, and society in the time in which we are growing up. After such influences, we make the choice when to lose our virginity, when to start dating, whether or not to use precautions during sexual intercourse, when to bear our first child, and so on. There are many stages of life a person goes through before they actually know everything about themselves, know their true gender role, and sexual identity.…

To see the relationship between desire and permission to have sex I would like to start with ‘desire’, so what is desire – its sense of longing for a person or object or hoping for an outcome. Desire is the fire that sets action aflame. When a person desires something or someone, their sense of longing is excited by the enjoyment or the thought of the item or person, and they want to take actions to obtain their goal. I think the relationship between desire and sex, is a sexual desire that involves the lustful, sexually passionate feelings people have for each other. Sexual desire is a very intense and powerful emotion; it can cloud one’s judgmental and prompt risk-taking. For example, man’s sexual desire is typically omnipresent, ready to spring into action at the slightest hint of a sexual encounter. His desire is, for all practical purposes, an automatic response, requiring nothing more than suggestion. His goal is sexual gratification; most typically, self-gratification and his thoughts generally are of pleasure rather than intimacy and relationship. If to talk about women…we are complex beings. We differ greatly from men and even between ourselves when it comes to feeling and experiencing sexual desire. If we are to comprehend the true nature of our sexual desire, we must appreciate the role of the female sex standard. Our sexual desire lies deep within our souls; slumbering, awaiting an awakening that requires a specific degree of commitment and psychic receptivity on behalf of our partner. It is anything but automatic. Our goal is intimacy, relationship, and ultimately, transformation of our lover. Our thoughts too are of pleasure, but in a different context—we relish pleasure, not so much for itself,…

The commonalities that are in the values that I have chosen are that they try to make decisions in a way that is not selfish. I just believe in treating others the way that I would want to be treated. Even when making decisions in my personal life or in business I try to understand where the other party is coming from. These values make me think over what I say and do before I speak of act. They help to keep me from making irrational decisions. If one or more of my values that I’ve listed conflict with my…

Most young people are very impulsive when it comes to making sexual decision. They are inclined to act on the spur of the moment without even thinking about what there impulsive behavior can lead to in the long run. They do not apply critical thinking to this emotionally charged situation. I would not engage in sex with someone who I did not know or someone who I was not familiar with on a long term basis. I want my partner to be a bit more on the superficial level. I want to have awareness of their health status and to make sure that they are stable prior to taking those…
