Motivated, Never stops trying, Committed to the end, good role-model, persists until she masters it,” are some of the ways my friends and teachers describe me. I am Shateema Mckines, a 17 year old senior at Beach Channel High school. As an adolescent, education was always important to me in every aspect. As I come to the close of my final year of high school, I am proud that even though I was surrounded by violence, drama, alcoholism, and drugs growing up in the Rockaway’s, I avoided it all. I refuse to go down that path. In my eyes, education is the key to success and becoming successful is a long-term goal of mine. A goal is something a person sets for him or her to accomplish throughout his/her life. I am graduating high school, enrolled in college at Morrisville State College to take up Nursing and I am a member of the National Honor Society for four years standing. I am ready to embark on a new challenge in the field of medicine.
Since a young girl, my interest has always been in medicine. From the trips to the doctors for checkups, I became fascinated and always told my doctors that I wanted to become a nurse. I loved the way the doctors worked and took care of me and I wanted to do the same for others. Helping people makes me happy because I know that I changed a person life either by my advice, conversation, helping someone with homework/ class works, etc. I am very compassionate and to see happiness in others warms my heart. I know in order for me to fulfill my goal to becoming a nurse I need to exceed in High school which I am doing and graduate from college.   My grades have always been high even in junior High school where I graduated with an average of 94.50 and am still maintaining my 90 average in High school. I am essentially proud of this because I don’t naturally excel in all subjects.
