Abortion Views: The Search for Truth in Words
One of the top and most debated topics is abortion. This topic is broad and is in constant argument between pro-choice and pro-life activists. They both feel very passionate on the side they stand on this subject. The most frequently debated topics of these two parties include fetal rights, abortion’s equality to murder, and abortion’s benefits to society. What it should come to is the individual’s decision/choice based on facts, not slanted or curved beliefs of either party on what they feel is acceptable. Having an abortion is a hard decision for some women to make. When it comes to both parties, it is hard to make the distinction of what is true or false about abortion, especially since both parties use different variations of words such as life, human being, and person. Some pro-life and pro-choice activists will use religious beliefs or say it is acceptable in today’s society and that having an abortion is safe with no physical or mental side effects, or it is murder, or it is not murder.
The largest debate between pro-life and pro-choice groups is if the growing fetus is a life or considered a human being. In the Merrian Webster Dictionary life is defined as a noun, “the period, during which something exists, lasts or is in progress” (419) Also human is defined as an adjective, “relating to or characteristic of human beings” (357).
