Abortion is a very controversial topic in politics as well as everywhere else. Abortion is the termination of an unborn child. Whenever a child is in it's mother's womb many claim it is not considered a child, however the child inside the womb is as much alive as the kids playing on the play ground. The defiinition of life according to websters is "the vital and functional being from a dead body." A fetilized egg that over a time span of four to weeks will have a heartbeat (Magill's Medical Guide) that will also eat, sleep, and move. Thus making it a life, because it is obviously not the same as a dead body. Since the beginning of time abortions have take place over the last 100 years it has became a major topic of debating, the laws surronding this subject have changed multiple times within the years, thus making the history extremely important.When a mother aborts her unborn child is not only taking a future life away she is also putting herself at risk for future complications. In any situation abortion is not the solution to the problem, adoption is a much better way to deal with the situation.

Abortions have been practiced in every culture since the beginning of civilization. According to the article The History of Abortion in America, Abortion was legal until the late 1840's, by 1841, ten states had declared abortion to be a criminal act, but punishments were weak and the laws frequently ignored. The movement against abortion was led by the American Medical Association (AMA), founded in 1847. In 1859, the AMA passed a resolution codemning abortion as a criminal act. Within a few years, every state declared abortion a felony. In1950 the AMA reversed its position and began a campaign to change abortion laws. Illegal abortions were killing many women which caused 17 states to legalize and provide abortions under certain circumstances.
