Abortion Among Teenagers
The subject of teenage abortion, is an emotionally charged one. The two major groups are completely opposite in their beliefs. Rather then discuss the emotional views of those groups, I have chosen to research, write, and conclude based on factual material, concerning teenage abortion. A discussion of abortion as a definition is explained medically, and in a small part the emotional effects on the participant. I have chosen to report in a factual not an emotional manner. The direct definition of abortion is the termination of a pregnancy by loss or destruction of the fetus before birth. ("Abortion") There are two types of abortion, spontaneous and induced. Spontaneous abortion occurs in the first trimester (first three months) of a pregnancy. This type of abortion is more commonly known as a miscarriage. "Miscarriages are usually attributed to an abnormality to the fetus." Induced is the other type of abortion, the one creating a wide spread controversy throughout the United States and many other parts of the world. Induced abortion is a procedure intended to terminate a suspected or known unwanted pregnancy. The fetus is forced out of the uterus causing it to die. There are only a few different ways that an induced abortion is performed. The most common technique is known as vacuum aspiration. During the procedure the embryo or the fetus and the placenta is drawn into a tube by vacuum pressure. Vacuum aspiration along with the other methods of abortion, are usually performed in the first trimester. The procedure for second trimester abortion is a more risky and complicated procedure. Thirty six percent of all teenage women who become pregnant choose to terminate their pregnancies by having abortions. There are many reasons why teenagers decide that abortion is the best option for their own specific situations. "Some say they aren't ready for the kind of changes a baby would bring to their lives." The top three reasons, teens and grown women alike, choose to have

Abortion is the termination of human pregnancy. According to Greenberg, Bruess & Conklin there are two types of abortion, Spontaneous abortions, and induced abortion. The natural termination of a pregnancy is called spontaneous abortion or usually called miscarriages, and it occurs when the fetus stop developing and its expulse from the utero. Abortions requiring intervention to end the pregnancy are technically called Induce Abortion. Induce abortion has various methods including Vacuum aspiration, manual vacuum aspiration, medical abortion, or dilation and evacuation. Vacuum aspiration is the most common abortion in the United States, and is a “surgical procedure that uses a suction tube to evacuate the contents of the uterus, which can be used through the first weeks and the second trimester” (Greenberg, Bruess & Conklin, 2010). The manual vacuum aspiration (MVA) is a variation of vacuum aspiration that can be used from the detection of pregnancy up to 12 weeks since the last menstrual period. (Greenberg, Bruess & Conklin, 2010). The medical abortion is the used of drug to provoke the abortion. Dilation and evacuation occurs during the second trimester of pregnancy. This type of induces abortion “involves dilating the cervix, scraping the wall of the uterus and removing the endometrial lining with suction” (Greenberg, Bruess & Conklin, 2010).…

Although less than one percent of abortions happen due to rape or incest, forty percent of unintended pregnancies end in abortion, but twenty one percent of all pregnancies end in abortions. Abortions happen for many different reasons such as inadequate finances, they are not ready for responsibility, their life may change too much, they might have problems with relationships, or they may be too young or immature, so these really need to be taken into consideration when hearing that a woman had an abortion. With that in mind, people do not understand why a woman has an abortion, but they should definitely find out the reason and understand where she is coming from. Even though some mothers have given an explanation as to why they have had the abortion, most people could say that the child never had a chance to live their life and people get scared by the process of abortion. “Your cervix (womb entrance) will be dilated (widened) to make accessing your womb easier. A tablet may be placed inside your vagina a few hours before the abortion to soften your cervix and make it easier to open. Sometimes, an alternative ‘preparing’ tablet is given by mouth. A small, plastic suction tube connected to a pump will then be inserted into your womb and used to remove the fetus,” The sound of this procedure does…

An abortion occurs when the pregnancy is ended or terminated by physical means so that it does not result in the birth of a child. Sometimes this is called ‘termination of pregnancy’. The fetus is removed from the womb, either by taking a pill (medically proven), which is taken to cause a miscarriage. The second way is surgical. Surgical abortion occurs when the fetus is removed from the womb with instruments. Most of all abortions is taken care of on a one day basis, meaning it is not required to stay overnight. There are several instruments used to terminate the pregnancy. The instruments used during the surgery are called Manual Vacuum Aspiration, Uterine Curette, Syringe, Forceps, Cervical dilators and last but not least, Embryotomy scissors. The…

Abortion is the conclusion of a pregnancy, the ejection of the embryo or fetus. In the beginning of the 1800's abortion was permitted until the mid 1800's it became a subject in which was a strictly legal regulation . For almost 100 years later, in the U.S. jurisdiction, abortion was illegal unless performed by a physician to preserve the mothers life. For Example abortion in Canada is governed by the same legislation and medical standards . It estimated that at least 40% of pregnancies in Canada are unplanned . Apparently about half of these pregnancies end up in abortion. There are a few options in order to obtain an abortion. One of the of the procedure takes place like this, First of all the doctor inserts a slim piece of laminaria which is inserted into the women's cervix. A few hours before the official day of the abortion, the cervix widens the opening .Then the women can be locally or general anesthetize . The doctors widen up the cervix , inserting an aspiration machine, which is similar to the one a dentist use to clear the mouth of saliva. Once the suction stops the doctors makes sure all parts of the embryo and placenta are gone and the uterus is empty and clean. This procedure only takes about 10 minutes. This is just one of the ways to obtain an abortion. Studies show that a single abortion doesn't change the women's ability in order to conceive and have a healthy children in the future. As in long-term psychological effects researchers have found that having an abortion doesn't make women…

We might ask ourselves, what is abortion and what effect does it have on society? According to the Columbia Encyclopedia, “abortion is any interruption of human pregnancy prior to the 28th week.” Some abortions occur naturally because a fetus does not develop normally or because the mother has an injury or factors that prevent her from carrying the pregnancy to term, meaning, having a miscarriage. “Other abortions are induced, meaning, intentionally brought on because the pregnancy is unwanted, it presents a risk to a woman’s health, or because the fetus might have severe physical or mental health problems” cites the Columbia Encclopedia. Induced abortion is one of today’s most intense and popular ethical, philosophical, and psychological issues. Nowadays, medical techniques have made induced abortions simpler and less dangerous. But in the United States, debates over abortion are an everyday battle filled with confrontations!…

Abortion is the induced termination of a pregnancy after conception. There are different ways in which an abortion can occur. Spontaneous abortions are usually termed as miscarriage. Miscarriage that happens between 8 to 22 weeks is due to incorrect replication of chromosomes, and it can be caused by environmental factors. Stillbirth and premature-birth are not considered miscarriage and it happens after 22 weeks and before 37 weeks of gestation. Therapeutic abortion is another type. It is an abortion induced to preserve the health of the pregnant female or avoid any complication that might happened to fetus during the gustation or thereafter. Therapeutic abortions are two types: Medical abortion and surgical abortion, while an abortion induced for any other reasons is termed and elective abortion. Abortion allows women to put an end to their pregnancies, but involve destruction of the under-developed embryo or fetus. For this reason, it is a controversial subject not only in America but also all over the world and stand divided calling themselves as pro-life, and pro-choice. In America, it has become so indoctrinated that one political party identify itself with pro-life, while the other party identify it with pro-choice.…

More than one third of all teenage pregnancies in the U.S end in abortion, as well as 45 percent of unintended pregnancies, according to childtrendsdatabank.org,. Many concerns with the process of raising a child include how a persons life may change with bringing a baby into the world, their financial inability, their lack of education and their maturity in still being a child themselves yet raising a child. The history of abortion dates back as far as a thousand years ago. In the mid to late 1800’s, states began passing laws making abortion illegal. So what factors led to the legalization of abortion? Abortion has come to be more controlled with decision in age and reasoning. Abortions are now widely available with parent consent and to legal adults. Although there are fewer deaths as well as fewer teen abortions, it is still a problem in our society due to the careless repetitive decisions of women who chose to use abortion as a form of contraception. Abortion was once a dangerous practice that killed many women while performing the practice illegally. Abortion has been an acceptable option due to safer medical practices. With abortion now legal in some states, there has been a lower rate of back alley abortions over the years. Back alley abortions are the most dangerous way of removing the baby, this was a method often used by unwed women. This usually consisted of removing the baby with a coat hanger and other unsafe, unsanitary tools. With many pros and cons, choosing between life and death is a decision that involves much stress mentally and physically. There will never be a point of readiness in choosing an abortion. Some may say there is a widely held belief that in dealing with abortion, rape and incest are special cases. Yet according Matt Kaufman of boundless.org (2004) the only major study of pregnant rape victims done by Dr. Sandra Makhorn found that 75 to 85 percent chose against abortion (paragraph 11). When reading more in depth through the…

The most devastating abortion is the in-clinic procedure where the doctor performs either a Suction-aspiration or a Dilatation and Curettage. Both of which are dangerous and revolting. Heritage House Literature provides a great deal of abortion facts that help explain what happens in each method of abortion. The Suction-aspiration is often done within the first three months of a pregnancy. In this abortion the womb is stretched wide and abortionist use long cylindrical rods which he inserts into the cervical opening as it stretches the cervix wide enough.
