The controversy over Abortion
One of the most talked about topics in our society today would probably be the topic of abortion. Abortion goes as far back as 1867 when it was illegal, but also a very popular procedure for women of the time to have done. Women’s “demand for abortion, generally hidden from public view and rarely spoken of in public, transformed medical practice and law over the course of the twentieth century” (Reagan 1). Almost everyone in society today has complete different views on the abortion topic. It all really depends on how well informed they are about it, or their own personal experience with abortion, whether it be them who had a decision to make on the situation or a friend or relative close to them who had to make the decision. It is also in question now if abortion is an inhumane act. If you think about it, why is it legal to kill an unborn child, but it’s illegal to kill a certain type of animal. Abortion is also a big issue in politics that politicians always have an issue with when trying to get their votes in. Whether we would like to admit it or not, abortion in a really big issue in the United States today that we really have yet to resolve the issue of. In the words of David Reardon, “Abortion is inherently unsafe. Well over a hundred significant physical and psychological complications have been linked to abortion…The psychological effects of abortion can be particularly devastating, literally crippling a woman’s ability to function in normal relationships with family and friends and even at work” (lee 1). I completely agree with this statement, If you think you are ready for an abortion or not, you never really are. This decision is a very emotionally harmful decision.
