Abortion has become a common problem, as well as a controversial issue in the American culture and politics today. Abortion procedures taking place nationwide is approximately 115,000 every single day, the United States is responsible for 3,700 of these procedures. Abortion can be defined in several ways, all in which removes a developing child from the mother’s womb. Suction Aspiration, the most common type of abortion, involves surgical instruments that are used to cut the living fetus into pieces and removing it from the uterus using a vacuum pump or a simple scraping and extraction. Many people believe that abortion is just another form of murder, the idea that life begins the moment a zygote is formed. These people are known as anti-abortionists. In the 1960’s states started passing laws that made abortion legal to protect the life and health of pregnant women. But on January 22, 1973, the Supreme Court legalized abortion nationwide.

Although I feel women should have the free will to make their life choices, I also believe that abortion shouldn’t be one. Did you know that almost 1 out of every 4 American babies are aborted? Many of these abortions that are taking place daily are performed on unmarried women. Because these women are financially unstable or unable to raise a child due to certain circumstances, their only option would be to have an abortion. There are many other alternatives when faced with an unplanned pregnancy. Women should consider parenting the child themselves, if they are ready emotionally and financially. If a woman is unable to care for a child on her own, she should reach out to the father of the child. By having both parents in the process, the child is guaranteed a stable and healthy lifestyle. Another option would be to place the child in a temporary foster care home. This allows the mother or parent of the child to ensure safety and stability, until they are ready to parent and support the child on their own. Out of all the...
