In Salem, Massachusetts in the year of 1692 the Salem witch trials ruined everybody’s lives and ignited all because of Abigail Williams. In the play the “Crucible” which is also known as a severe test, the town of Salem was considered a Crucible. The town was put through hard and controversial times. Abigail’s attachment to John Proctor makes her try to get rid of his wife Elizabeth throughout the entire play. Abigail also even threatens and lies multiple times to people to get what she wants. Abigail is a mean and selfish person that always wants her way no matter who she hurts.
Before the play even started Abigail had an affair with John Proctor. In Abigail’s eyes they are still together but John wanted nothing to do with her. Throughout the play Abigail put many people through hard times and made many people suffer. She did not care about anyone except for her one true lover, John Proctor. Abigail used to work for the Proctors but when Elizabeth found out about the affair she was fired. John told Abigail that the affair they had meant nothing. John says “Abby I may think of you softly from time to time. But I will cut off my hand before I’ll ever reach for you again.” Even after what John said to her she still didn’t get it, she still tried doing everything just so she can be with John. In the beginning of the play Abby and some other girls went dancing in the forest, which is what started the whole witch trials. While dancing in the forest Abby tried putting a curse on Elizabeth to kill her by drinking chicken blood. She thought that if she got rid of Elizabeth John would marry her. At the Salem witch trials Marry Warren (Proctors servant) made a doll for Elizabeth and stuck a needle in the stomach area. Abigail did the same exact thing and stuck a needle into her stomach and said “Elizabeth’s sole had done it.” Abigail is crazy and selfish enough to ruin someone else’s life and blame someone for witchcraft when they have done nothing...
