Living in a world where many years of development and evolution of the human beings damaged the nature and certain witnesses of culture and history, the humanity arrived at a point where natural and cultural heritages obtain more value. People want to get to know their own and other countries’ culture and nature.

But caused by this increased interest in natural and cultural assets, the number of tourism rises and those heritages need to be protected. National Parks and the UNESCO World Heritage Committee mark such protected areas and have the goal to arrange an appropriate balance between the people, nature and culture.

Well-managed tourism developments can give a guarantee for the realization of this balance. The emphasis lies on a well-structured management plan that has been figured out carefully. The interests of the natural and/or culture heritages, including terms like the “carrying capacity”, have a high priority.

Above all, protecting natural and cultural sites seems to be a big challenge for developing countries, as they often have insufficient resources to finance the safeguarding. They have the possibility to ask for help of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee. It was established to offer... [continues]
