I. Summary
Abakada ina is a film dedicated to all women who strive to be the best for their children. It is about an illiterate woman named Estella who married Daniel and bore three beautiful daughters. Since Estella had stopped studying when she was still a child, she always had an argue with her mother-in-law named Matilda. Matilda loves her grandchildren very much that she didn’t want them to become like their mother – an illiterate person. Matilda taught everything she knew to Estella’s children. She tried to be a mother to them. Matilda wanted to raise them the way she raised her children, Daniel and Jojo. Because of this, Estella felt that she doesn’t have a place in them, that she cannot do anything but to sell in the market.

Daniel came back home from his work on the ship and he tried to live with his family away from his mother. It was a very tough decision for them but they did it because they believe that they could fulfill their dreams in a place far from where they grew up. Unfortunately, many bad things had happened so they decided again to go back to Matilda though Estella knew that she would be hurt again by her.

Daniel and Estella broke up and they both struggle to make their family get back again. Estella studied again and Daniel chose to pursue the course he really wanted. They wrote letters to each other and promised to one another that no matter what happen, the “Daniel and Estella” they knew would be together and love each other with all their hearts all over again.

II. Settings:
The film wanted its audience to feel what the story is really all about. It lay two different times. One is the time where Estella and Daniel was a still a child and the other one is the present particular. The story happened in common places for people who belong in the low class of the society. More particularly, the life of the people in the province.

The characters in the film did a great job in order to get the watchers attentions and feelings. The main character in the film is Estella. Though she is an illiterate person, she did her best to make her children and husband felt that she is a good mother and a husband. She worked hard and drove all the way just to make them happy. Daniel, the wife of Estella, is a very loving father and a husband. Like all the fathers in the world, he really strives hard to give his family the wealth he had been dreaming all of his life. Gina, Beth and Joan, Estella’s wonderful children, had been spoiled by their grandmother and because of this; they had set on their minds that they don’t want to become like their mother.

Matilda, mother-in-law of Estella, wants his children to do what she and her husband wanted to do. She is a nice granny to her grandchildren though she always hurt Estella’s feelings. Miling, mother of Estella, felt so deeply in love with her husband that she forgotten her daughter’s needs, specially the knowledge that everybody wanted to have. Amy, Estella’s friend, is a kind-hearted person. She helped Estella in all the ways she could possibly do. Theme:

The theme of the story is,” education is indeed a very important thing we should keep as we go on through our journey”. This is the only thing that no one could ever take away from us. We should treasure and keep a place for it in our hearts and minds. In the film, it tells us how education affects the way we live our lives.

Estella and Daniel most likely knew each other since they were still a child. They entered in the same school. Matilda, Daniel’s mother, was their teacher. This is all where their love story began.
