Lab Report- Fetal Pig
The purpose of dissecting the fetal pig is to experience way the body looks internally. The fetal pig body organs are similar to the organs in a human body as well as the functions.
My first step was to start cutting from the neck/cervical down to the midsection of the body. Then I cut the skin off so I can see the different muscles groups, such as the pectoralis major across the chest. However, I had to be very careful while cutting downward because if I cut to deep I can damage an organ. As I open the pig, the first think I notice was the rib cage covering up the lungs located in the thoracic cavity. Meanwhile, the lungs are covering up the heart, which is corned by the parietal pericardium.
The next step was cutting further down, as I did that I notice the diaphragm is separates the thoracic cavity from the abdominal cavity. In the abdominal cavity, the liver is seen along with the stomach (shapes like a big balloon), which is underneath the liver. The spleen is located on the left side of the stomach and the pancreas is located over the spleen. As the gallbladder is attach to the liver (right side). Therefore, behind the liver were the kidneys and behind that were the intestines large and small.
This was a very good experience for me because I get to see where all the organs were located. I definitely learned a lot by doing this experiment. [continues]
