A hidden message in war
There have been many experiences which have occurred during my past which have had an enormous effect on my life. Throughout the many years I have spent in Canada and in foreign countries I have had truly wondrous experiences, visiting Niagara Falls, journeying across Cairo, touring Paris, even dining in Frankfurt. But none have delivered me a message as powerful as the journey through war, death, and pain. War brings about many things to wonder of, as to why it happens? Is there really anything that deserves this? Or maybe why do people have to live through it? I am going to reveal my experience in a place I have learned to love and how I watched its people, my people and our land suffer through war.
I had arrived in Beirut July 5th, a week before the war had broken out between Lebanon and Israel. There was a word out that war would break out soon, but as usual, stubborn as I was relentlessly I vowed I would stay whatever happened. The war had broken out the morning of July 12th, 2006. Awoken by the sound of destruction; everyone knew the war had begun. Israeli war shells and rockets rained over Lebanon. Me and my family had fled the capital to the south were my home village relies. My uncle had come and spoke to me with a desperate look on his face…
“Run! Flee to Canada; there is no future for you here.”
“I will not, I have a right to stay here with my family and the ones I love! If Allah has not planned a future for me, then it won’t matter where I go.” I replied.
“You are stubborn little boy! People are dying to leave this forsaken battlefield!” My uncle Roared.
“Then they are cowards! I will not run! I will stay here till the end. Even if I die, I will know that I took a stand for my country.” I ended, finishing the conversation.
That was the last I ever saw of him, he tried crossing the border to Syria so he could use there airport to flee from the Middle-East. Unfortunately the road to Syria was bombarded and my uncle was... [continues]
