A college essay has three parts which have specific purposes. The first part being is the introduction. The introduction is to consist of the topic, or as most people would like to say “Attention- grabber”. The topic needs to interest the reader, so that way they keep reading. The introduction should also contain some significant background on the specific principle of the essay. That way it helps the reader understand why you are focusing on that topic, and it makes the transition to the main point of your paper. The introduction must end with a thesis statement. The thesis statement is the overall point you want to make in your paper. The second part of the essay should be the body. The body includes the developmental paragraphs. Developmental paragraphs should state a topic sentence. It is the main idea that establishes what can be put in your paragraph and what cant. A well written paragraph must have a substance. The substance pertains to the specific examples from the work which you mention in support of your thesis statement and topic sentence of each paragraph. The paragraphs ought to have two or more superior examples in order to persuade your reader that your thesis and topic sentence are true and can be held up by convincing data. Make sure your examples are fully developed, so that way your paragraph doesn’t look like an outline. Last but not least your essay should end with a conclusion. The conclusion is to push the reader to think about the outcome of the topic. It is to restate the thesis, summarize your major points, and make the context of your argument clear. Be sure not to repeat your thesis word for word. It should remind the person who read your paper, what it really was about.
