Background of the Company
As a the business belongs to the micro- and small enterprises (MSE), L.P.G. Furniture is not yet ready to apply for an ISO Certification and also due to financial restrictions and limitations. Consequently, it can not establish a formal EMS to find ways on how to control environmental aspects of the business.
Statement of the Problem
The field of business which is wood processing and furniture making, present adverse environmental impacts. Business operations generally involve the utilization of energy, generation of wastes and also dealing with hazardous materials and wastes.
The excessive waste present in L.P.G. Furniture is an indicator of inefficient use of raw materials and resources such as wood. If waste is properly managed and reduced, advantages and benefits will be achieved both by the business through economic profitability and positive financial returns and by the environment through reduced pollution emissions and waste products. The excessive waste is a result of poor production techniques and methods.
The objective of this study is to establish a cleaner production in wood processing and furniture making for L.P.G. Furniture. The study also aims to help the business in practicing and exercising its environmental responsibility by minimizing and reducing its pollution emissions and other by-products which contributes to different environmental problems today.
Alternative Courses of Action
The study has listed two alternative courses of action in order to satisfy and attain the objectives:
