Effects of the Tumbling Towers

A major turning point in the country’s recent history was the unfortunate events that occurred in New York and Washington on September 11th, 2001. The terrorist attacks have sparked many changes in the lives and morale of citizens in the United States of America. This paper has examined how the attacks contributed to different factors, such as the new airport security, the naivety of Americans, and the hate crimes on immigrants.

First after the 9/11 attacks, airlines in the United States experienced a dramatic increase in activity for security purposes. Travelers must check in at least two hours before their flight takes off. There are restrictions on what travelers can and cannot bring. Liquids have to be a certain size and placed in clear, sealed containers. No food or bottled water is allowed through security. Passengers are selected at random for more intense screenings. Over the decade, airport security has introduced new equipment, thus creating longer lines.Today, the lines move a little faster, mostly because travelers have become accustomed to the post 9/11 restrictions.

Secondly, after 9/11, many Americans felt an understandable hatred for the terrorists and had an urge to strike back at the culprits with all our military force. But some Americans viewed 9/11 as a license to kill and to act without reason. President Bush, for example, issued orders for the assassination of terrorist leaders such as Osama bin Laden. Another example of our naivety was instead of focusing all our energy on capturing the people responsible of 9/11, we attacked Afghanistan, killing not only soldiers but also civilians; yet there was no evidence that Iraq had anything to do with the attack of the twin towers. The resulting mind set lead the United States of America into an unnecessary war against Iraq.
