I come from...
I come from a working family. Both of my parents have worked for as long as I can remember. When my mom or dad came home, my sisters and I would be ecstatic. We would run to the door to see them, give them a hug and a kiss cherishing the moment we had to see them. This scene has replayed every day until this day. I now realize that when I have my kids I don’t ever want them to go through what I did, not being able to see their parents as much as they hoped to. Something that has shaped my life and has brought up the person that I am today is my parents mostly my mother who has never gave up on me no matter what my struggles were. When I was about 15 years old my parents sent me off to a group home for the first time not knowing what to expect I waited till I arrived. I was very benighted, I did not like it at all I wanted to do is go home but I knew I had to stay strong. I had never spent more than a few days away from home always so use to having everything my way sleeping in my bed. However a few days passed by, I decided to make the best of it. Normally I would have shied away from any social contact, but my counselor changed that. For once there was an adult who would listen to me and actually comprehend me aside from my mother. This adult had a huge impact in my life. While I was in the group home I felt like I could truly be myself. I didn’t have to be afraid of social contact when I was there because there was a counselor with me there, however there were also girls going through the same struggles who understood me instead of judging me. This is why I would someday like to help kids like myself who are afraid of revealing who they really are. This one person showed me that there was a place in this world where you didn’t have to be judged on your outward appearance. A counselor changed the way I looked at the world, and my expectations.
