Introduction

I work in the Recruitment department which is a branch of the HR function. East Lancashire Hospital NHS Trust, which is a large integrated care organisation that provides acute secondary healthcare for people of East Lancashire and Blackburn with Darwen, which has a combined population in the region of 530,000. We provide services to some of the most socially deprived areas of England.
The Trust treats nearly three quarters of a million patients a year from the most serious of emergencies to planned operations & procedures. Acute services are provided at the two main main sites which are Royal Blackburn and Burnley General Hospital. The Trust also has various community hospital sites with inpatient beds at Pendle Community Hospital, Accrington Victoria Hospital and Clitheroe Community Hospital, as well as the full range of adult community services.
The Trust is a specialist centre for hepatobiliary, head and neck and urological cancer services, in addition to providing specialist cardiology services and a network provider of Level 3 Neonatal Intensive Care.
In this assignment I will be looking at my organisation (East Lancashire Hospital) and the role of the Human Resources.
I will be providing a briefing note for a new manager to enable them to get some understanding of the trusts - Customers, - Services, - The trusts Vision, Values and objectives that we are currently working towards.

In summary, this report details the problems encountered with a member of staff working under my management whose attendance standards and working practices had started to slip. The session used was session 4 of Book 2 B120. Despite an appraisal system being in place and frequent discussions being had with the employee his attitude was impacting upon the other members of staff in the department. Using the notes from Book 2 session 4 the problem concepts observed are that no clear instructions had been set and any monitoring system utilised fully to best effect. The recommendations to overcome the issues would have been a structured meeting with the individual followed by better monitoring and reward/praise on follow-up over a monthly or weekly interval. Further support and training for the Manager in charge of the department would have lessened the impact on the whole department.…
