APPLICATION CASE
Carter Cleaning Company

1. FIVE SPECIFIC HR PROBLEMS THAT I THINK CARTER CLEANING WILL HAVE TO GRAPPLE WITH

a. High Turnover-
Due to the Nature of business, Carter Company will face problem like high turnover due to the nature of company. Less compensation or incentive in the service and retail company faces such problems. Skilled labor are not needed in Laundry Company so employee are much more willing for better employment rather looking for their career Development.

b. Lack of Training-
The labors on such organizations are unskilled due to the nature of business and lack any training whatsoever in regards to the business functions with the exceptions of their daily responsibilities.

c. Employees not Working at Their Highest
The employees lack drive and determination to work at their top level of performance due to the employees are not skilled. They may not necessarily be unmotivated towards work but they likely be inclined to do the bare minimum to collect a paycheck.

d. Employee Dissatisfaction
Low qualified employees are recruited by the services company that may arouse discontent and disenchantment towards pay, time and workload. I do not expect that the Carter Cleaning Company will be responsive to this.

e. Economic Trends
The service company, especially those not considered a necessity, tend to be subject to economy trends as booms and depression. A dry cleaning company is not overwhelmingly considered a must-have and therefore will be subject to changes in the economy.

2. WHAT WOULD I DO WHEN I WAS JENIFER CARTER

If I were Jenifer Carter, the first think I would do as a troubleshooter. I would be to conduct a performance appraisal on different levels. I will review the finances how the business are doing and then meet with management and staff.
After that I will prepare certain policies and standards for overcoming the problems and development of the business.
Example like: Training Opportunities,

The CEO of InterClean, David Spencer, is a middle aged businessman, who remains focused, and is completely driven in his efforts to ensure that this cleaning company increases its growth to become a leader within the sanitation industry. Initially, David and his team proposed a new service focus that entailed being the first within the industry to expand their cleaning company by introducing an all-inclusive service. While this is a great opportunity for growth, a huge concern is that the current sales team at InterClean is not knowledgeable on the current sanitation regulations, based on legal and environmental requirements. Because of this, Janet in HR began to work on screening new sales hires that had existing sales experience, which caused the existing employees to feel threatened for their job security. However, with the company headed in this new direction, mandatory training would take place for all employees, in hopes for boosting morale. As employees began to start rumors about the changes, the morale began to drop and they felt there was no long time employee loyalty.…

Since employees who grew up in retail they lack of potential to be consultants and mentally being a sort of “clerk” kind, therefore it would be hard for company to change their minds. By using SWOT analysis, I found out strengths of this company was the core idea that they are not just selling cloths but also understanding people, both your teammates and your customers. The weakness was not every employee understand this idea and treat customers the company wishes. Opportunities were their minds would be change after intensive training. Threat would be company spent extra resources on training.…
