Where Could New Americans Turn for Help? Major problems for immigrants who traveled to America in the late 19th and early 20th centuries occurred. Newcomers to U.S. cities had few or no skills to perform any job in the American economy, could not speak English, and much more. One social problem that I would like to address is that of housing and feeding immigrants if they came to America with no money. I would like to help immigrants who come to America with no money, a large family, and no real skills to find a good-paying job to support their family.

My group’s name is INAH, known as Immigrants Need A Home.

List of demands abandoned homes volunteers to help teach immigrated-families English classes or people to teach these families how to do labor/skillful work government money to provide for food the need of some homeless shelters if needed

The most important of the demands listed above for the INAH are the abandoned homes and classes/people to teach these families how to do labor/skillful work. Abandoned homes are important because the whole reason for this group is to help immigrated families find a place to stay and sleep in. Classes for teaching these families how to do labor and skillful work is also very important because if they can learn to do that, then the government does not have to provide for food since these families will have enough money to provide for themselves. Therefore, the demand that I am willing to limit through compromise is government money to provide for food.

Meeting times for this group would be every Monday and Wednesday from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM. These meetings will take place at the nearest public library.

Homelessness has always been a problem for the United States. Since its birth as a nation, there have consistently been individuals who find themselves without a place to live, looking for shelter with family, friends, or simply anywhere they can find it. These individuals have been targeted as candidates for social aid, but this was primarily provided by churches and other care organizations. However, in the past thirty years the homeless population has increased almost exponentially in numbers. While the cause of this is undetermined, it is quite certain that while the homeless did present a social problem previously, there is no doubt that homelessness had reached a point that something had to be done about it on a national level. To begin to alleviate this problem, the Stewart B. McKinney Homeless Assistance Act was put into effect by the federal government. Many different economy issues were considered in the development of this bill, along with the conflict of politics and ideology. The history of homelessness also had to be considered before a bill could be implemented that would effectively stop the increase of homelessness by instating preventative forces and alleviating the situation as it remained. All these came together and resulted in what is known as the Stewart B. McKinney Homeless Assistance Act of 1987.…

Hammurabi’s Code and Ben Zhao’s Instruction manual for Women, both establish similar gender norms about the female sex. One example of a gender norm established by the two is the emphasis of a women’s protection of her purity before marriage. For example Hammurabi’s code states “Again, there must be no marriage with a prostitute, since by reason of the abuse of her body. God could not accept her nuptial sacrifices.”(pg. 16). The code says that a women’s virginity is sacred and a gift given to God and her husband at marriage, it is her virtue and without it she has nothing of value. There is also a similar opinion given in Ben Zhao’s instructions that says “To guard carefully her chastity; to control circumspectly her behavior; in every motion to exhibit modesty; and to model each act on the best usage, this is womanly virtue” (Ben Zhao). He is essentially saying the same thing, a women’s chastity is what makes her respectable and gives her validity. However, while Both Hammurabi’s Code and Ben Zhao’s manual share similar gender norms, they also establish gender norms that are the opposite of each other, such as the behavior and role of women in society. For example Ben Zhao says “Let a woman modestly yield to others; 1et her respect others; let her put others first, herself last. Should she do something good, let her not mention it; should she do something bad let her not deny it. Let her bear disgrace; let her even endure when others speak or do evil to her.”(Ben Zhao). Ben Zhao believes that a women’s role is to please others, never themselves, to do good and receive nothing, but be punished and humiliated for wrong doing. However King Hammurabi thinks the opposite “If a women quarrel with her husband… the reasons for her prejudice must be presented. If she is guiltless… but he leaves and neglects her, then no guilt is attached to this women; she shall take her dowry and return to her father’s house” (pg.…
