“The party” is all about control. They do not like to have the people of Oceana rebelling against them. They have very many tactics to keep the people of Oceana under their control. “The party” has control over Oceana because they use the tactics Fear, Language, Alcohol, and Love against the people to keep them under control.
The first tactic of Fear that “the party” uses is people’s worst personal fears: For example, “The thing that is in room 101 is the worst thing in the world.” Therefore “the party” uses fear to keep the people of Oceana under control, and then the people don’t lie because their too afraid of what’s in room 101. “The party” keeps them afraid, and under control, so they think that they’ll die if they think or go against “Big Brother.”
One aspect of Language that “the party” uses is Newspeak: For instance, “By yourself means ownlife in Newspeak.” So then, when “the party” uses Newspeak the people of Oceana don’t know how to rebel because there is no thought for it. By changing words and their meaning “the party” can use certain words to control the people of Oceana.
One of the types of Alcohol that “the party” uses to keep people under control is Victory Gin: Such as, “He took down from the shelf a bottle of colorless liquid with a plain white label marked ‘VICTORY GIN.’” Therefore ‘the party” has control over the people of Oceana by keeping them drunk so they don’t know what’s all going on in Oceana. Also so they don’t have enough minds to think about rebelling or think other thoughts against Big Brother.
One part of Love that the party uses is the Junior Anti-Sex League: For example “There were even organizations such as the junior anti-sex league which advocated complete celibacy for both sexes.” So then when “the party” uses the Junior Anti-Sex League against the people of Oceana the people can’t have sex nor have any children. “The party” is the one who controls who can...
