This Day in History: Pablo Picasso

On this day, October 25th, in history there have been a wide range of events. Some have been tragic and have had a large effect on humanity, whereas other events have been small in comparison. One event important to art history occurred on this daymany years ago. On October 25th, 1881 Pablo Picasso was born in Magala, Spain.History.com describes Picasso as “one of the greatest and most influential artists of the 20th century.”

Pablo Picasso‘s father was a drawing professor, and naturally, Pablo followed suit. At the young age of 13 he had his first exhibit and ended up dropping out of art school to pursue his endeavor full time. As a teenager Picasso moved to Paris and had already produced hundreds of paintings. He was given an exhibit in a gallery on a prestigious street known for great art. His magnificent collection of over 50,000 pieces was produced in a span of 80 years. The collection includes drawings, engravings, paintings, sculptures, and ceramics. He continued producing pieces, although not as closely studied as his earlier pieces, until his death at the age of 91. His work will undoubtedly continue to live on in museums and art history text books.
