Lana Del Rey is the new sensation in the music world. Her studio album hits U.S. stores today and she’s at the tip of everyone’s tongue. Born as Elizabeth Grant in New York City and raised in Lake Placid, she is the daughter of an investor. Although she started out attending Fordham University in New York, her heart has always been with music. She decided to leave school and pursue her music career full time. In a previous interview from Vogue, Del Rey explains that she changed her name because she “wanted a name [she] could shape the music towards.” The name Lana Del Rey reminded Elizabeth and her Cuban friends of “the glamour of the seaside.” The name was born and the persona stuck.
