American singer-songwriter Jason Mraz was born in Mechanicsville, Virginia. Although his parents divorced when he was young, Mraz assures fans that his childhood was idyllic. When describing Mechanicsville, Jason Mraz says that his hometown was a great place to grow up, complete with “white picket fences, a church on every street corner, low crime and virtually no drug use.” Jason Mraz has always had a knack for entertaining crowds and wooing fans with playful lyrics and an honest musical delivery. Not surprisingly, he found early success playing in coffee-shop type atmospheres where his audience interaction and rapidfire, jazzy pop songs were hard to resist. He recorded the album “Live at Java Joe’s” in 2001 in a coffee shop near where singer Jewel got her start as well.
In 2002 Jason Mraz signed a record deal with Elektra Records and released his debut studio album, “Waiting for My Rocket to Come,” shortly after. Jason Mraz’s career started to blast off thanks to his single “The Remedy (I Won’t Worry).” After releasing the single, Jason Mraz noticed that the number of fans at shows began to increase drastically. Riding the wave from commercial success, Mraz toured with iconic artists like Tracy Chapman and Alanis Morissette in 2003 and 2005, respectively. He released his sophomore studio album, “Mr. A-Z,” with Atlantic Records in 2005, which debuted near the top of Billboard 200. Jason Mraz released his most successful album to date, “We Sing. We Dance. We Steal Things.,” in 2008. His single, “I’m Yours,” was wildly successful globally and propelled his career to a completely different level. “I’m Yours” broke records for time spent at the top of the charts and brought Mraz a five-times platinum record.
Jason Mraz will release his fourth album, Love is a Four Letter Word, on April 17, 2012. He describes the album as flowing with the pace of life, or at least, flowing with the pace of his own life as it is now. He played with “medium-tempo tunes” and wanted to create a mellow, personal, a melodic record. Outside of his music career, Jason Mraz enjoys sustainable farming and is an active supporter for several musical charities. Check out the track list for the new album below!
