January is over and the holiday season is long gone. Winter is in full swing and many of us start to get a case of the winter blues around this time of year. Though temperatures are dropping, the lure of Spring is still just around the corner.
Studies have shown that beginning to plan a vacation during this part of the year can boost happiness levels, sometimes even more than the trip itself does. Let’s face it, we all love to dream about faraway places and warm sunny beaches when we’re stuck in the blizzards of our everyday lives. Making the all-important decision on where to travel for Spring Break can be a tough one though. Use these tips below to get going on your vacation planning.
Stay on a Budget
Unless your parents are footing the bill for your Spring Break ruckus, you’ve probably been squirreling away money here and there for your trip. Set a realistic budget for yourself and be sure to stick to it. Spending tons of money on a luxury hotel that you’ll be in for sleeping and nothing else probably doesn’t make much sense. Plan out how much you want to spend on food, alcohol and souvenirs.
Pick Somewhere Safe
No one wants to end up as the next big news story because you went missing on a tropical island somewhere. When you’re planning your Spring vacation, make sure you take safety into consideration. Pick somewhere that you’ll feel comfortable being out walking around late at night.
Go with Good Friends
Along with the safety theme, you want to go on a Spring vacation with people you know. You don’t have to be best friends, but you should at least know that they aren’t going to do anything dangerous or put you in a terrible situation. Also, you want to make sure they aren’t cleptos and you can leave your stuff in your hotel without worrying. Bottom-line is that you’re on vacation to have a good time, so bring people you can do that with.
Pace Yourself
Spring vacation is a marathon not a sprint. If you’re at your destination for a whole week or more, you have plenty of time to go crazy and enjoy yourself. If you’re going somewhere tropical, pack lots of sunscreen so you don’t get burned on the first day and suffer the rest of the week. Above all, have fun!
