1.1 Approaches to self–managed learning
Self managed learning is an approach to management development which enables managers to be more aware of how they achieve key results using live work issues while controlling the content, processes and pace of their own learning with a group of other managers who are collectively responsible for assessing their own progress within a structured program facilitated by an adviser (Cunningham, 1986). There are a number of self-managed learning approaches available in increasing personal development learning capabilities and these approaches are as follows:-
Internet: Internet opens the boundary of knowledge and information for the people to develop them at a faster and higher level. Internet has become the ideal means of self learning technique and it facilitates to progress self awareness that contributes a lot in enhancing professional development potential among the individuals. For example, Google, Wikipedia, Encyclopedia, online journals and other sources could be viewed as internet source of learning.
Critical and creative thinking: With the easy access to different sources of training and exposure, people can develop critical and creative thinking capability through utilizing different kinds of training program. Critical and creative thinking are fundamental to human intellectual progress and artifacts thereof. Depending on context and purpose, critical and creative thinking skills can be interdependent or separately applied. For example, Computer simulation for solving business problem could be considered as critical and creative thinking approach.
Case study method: Case study method provides a unique option for self managed learning, taking a real organization as the case people can take different roles and play the responsibility to develop the skills. Case studies provide readers with an
