I believe a good example of perception and emotion was when the Persian store owner went to the Mexican locksmiths house to get revenge because he believed the locksmith is the one who terrorized and robbed his store. He took the gun he had purchased with intentions to kill the locksmith, and when he gets to the house they get into a confrontation. The Mexican’s little girl was looking out the door and when she seen the Persian man pull the gun out she ran out to protect her daddy because she had her “magic necklace” on. As she is running out her daddy grabs her to protect her from the bullet that was fired by the Persian. This particular scene showed a lot of perception and emotion by how upset and hurt the Persian man was about his store, to him going to retaliate against the Mexican. You could feel the pain and remorse of the Mexican man when he thought his daughter was shot, but you also see his relief when she wasn’t. He didn’t even retaliate back, he was just glad his little girl was ok and took his family in the house.…

A facial expression is the movement of the muscles beneath a person’s skin and it often demonstrates someone’s state of mind. For example if a person is upset they may look down and have upwardly slanted eyebrows and a frown. On the other hand a person who is happy will probably smile and have crescent-shaped eyes. Eye-to-eye contact can also show how a person is feeling or what they may be thinking. If a person avoids eye contact it may indicate that they are upset or annoyed, whereas a person who has wide eyes may suggest that they are excited. Facial expressions can help professionals understand how a person may be feeling or thinking. It is also very important that professionals show the right facial expressions too, for example they should smile when speaking to someone to show that they are interested and happy to be with them. This will help the person’s self-esteem and to build a strong and trusting relationship so they can share any personal information. (Wikipedia, 2015) (Carolyn Aldworth,…

Mankind was my business. The common welfare was my business; charity, mercy, forbearance and benevolence…” (Dickens 23). Marley is contradicting Scrooge here, because these are all the things Scrooge wants nothing to do with. Marley is trying to put the world in perspective for him, and trying to show him that money is not what matters. When Scrooge wakes up the following night, ready to be greeted by the second spirit, he opens up the curtains (not wishing to be taken by surprise this time). He is prepared for the ghost to take any shape. But when the clock strikes and he is still alone, he becomes very nervous. But soon a reddish light appears. At first the light scares Scrooge more than any ghost could have, but soon he realizes that the light must be coming from somewhere else (the adjoining room). As her approaches it he hears, “Come in! - come in! and Know me better, man!” (Dickens 54). Scrooge as a man of “business”, a man who is cold and relies solely on his mind (not feelings) to be prepared for all business situations, tries to be prepared again. But the ghosts do not follow a protocol, and when things don’t go as planned Scrooge becomes nervous. The room next door has been transformed into a festive cavern, full with food and greenery. Amid all of this sits the second spirit up a glowing torch as Scrooge enters and introduces himself as the Ghost of Christmas Present. His eyes are kind but Scrooge is scared to look in them. The ghost is dressed in a…

Dickens creates transformation in his characters to highlight the importance of kindness and its effects. We meet Scrooge in stave one, a man who is as “solitary as an oyster” and so cold “a chill does not affect him”, this leads readers to feel pessimistic and negatively towards Scrooge. His ill treatment of Bob Cratchit and his cold, dark nature is then contrasted to that of the warm “lively” Fezziwig, Scrooge’s old employer. Fezziwig with his “Christmas party” and the generosity toward Scrooge and his other apprentice presents readers with the happiness and contentment brought about by being generous and giving. The contrast of employee treatment allows Scrooge to see his twisted ways and allows readers to view how their generosity could lead to the happiness of others and a fulfillment of duty as an employer. The greatest and most obvious character transformation is between the initial Scrooge and the final Scrooge. “Wheezing...” and almost machine-like Ebenezer Scrooge is despised and on the outskirts of society, even the blind are seen as lucky for not having to “set eyes on evil himself”. However, Scrooge’s change and journey allows him to recognize his duty to others and how helping those around him, he receives joy and pleasure. This transformation…
