Social media marketing has become exceedingly popular among business of all sizes. So many people use social networks every day. Marketing for business can get very expensive. With social networking, businesses can promote their products and build their fan base. A business can use Facebook or Twitter to alert customers on sales and specials. Social networking was originally set up to interact with family, friends, and colleagues. Now businesses use social media marketing to keep current customers as well as get potential customers. Most businesses consider social networks as a marketing opportunity. Social media marketing is quickly gaining popularity. Facebook has more than three hundred million members worldwide. Twitter logs about fifty-million tweets per day. Businesses use this to their advantage.
Most businesses develop relationships with their consumers over the internet. Marketing on these social networks also gives businesses a sales lift. In order to get customer involvement, businesses use blogs, wikis, and social networks. There are numerous social networks a business can use to market their products. There is Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Google+, MySpace, and Yammer. All of these websites can be used as a marketing tool. Different businesses can benefit from using these websites. So many people use these websites every day. Rather than having to look through newspaper ads or look at sales on the commercials, you can just log onto these blogs. This helps to attract attention to the product or service. Social media marketing also helps to build customer loyalty. Customers can ask questions, share links, and discuss ideas. Another advantage of social media is that it allows your company to build connections with other businesses. Building a fan base is important especially if it involves other business contacts. Having the ability to have fun and be creative is also an advantage of social media marketing. Another major advantage is the cost. Most social networks are free to access.
A disadvantage of social media marketing is that it is time consuming. Someone has to learn how the website works. They have to learn how to use it. It takes a while for people to get the hang of tweeting. It is also a big time waster. It can take the focus off of the actual work for the business. Someone has to keep updating posts and profiles. Someone has to check on the site several times a day. The site would need to be monitored. A major disadvantage is that when working online you have to be aware of scams, hackers, fraud, and harassment. All of these things can damage your company’s reputation. Another disadvantage is having to deal with negative comments from employees or customers. Some information within a business has to be confidential.
