In the ongoing process of analyzing the HR department of Riordan Manufacturing and integrate the existing tools into a single application, the project now transitions from the analysis phase to the design phase. This phase will include a description of the application architecture and process design as well as a high-level description of recommended security tools. A description of the system’s architecture in terms of data, processes, interfaces, and network are also included in this phase and will be addressed in this portion of the paper. Finally, a physical data flow diagram will be included to show how the system will take in data and deliver and expected output.
Application Architecture and Process Design
Application architecture is the process of defining a structured solution that meets all of the technical and operational requirements, while optimizing common quality attributes such as performance, security, and manageability (Shaw and Garland 1996). Applications are designed using the steps from the system development life cycle and the process will be described be designing an information system for Riordan Manufacturing.
The first step in designing the new information system for Riordan is to identify what operations the system will perform and the information sources of the system. The processes and entities of Riordan’s information system will be represented in data flow diagrams. When designing the data flow diagrams, the amount of detail will be increased at each level. At each level, the process will divide into sub-processes.

Employees are individuals who carry out the everyday processes of Riordan Manufacturing. The client is the individual who purchases or orders goods and services from the company. A manager is also an employee
