A style guide is a set of standards for the writing and design of documents, either for general use or for specific publication, organizing or field. The implementation of a style guide is to provide uniformity in style and formatting within a document and across multiple documents. Style guides tell the format in which the paper must take. Yes, I believe adhering to a style guide is important because it is the main purpose when you are focusing on a style. It helps you to be successful in your writing. A style guide can lead you in a direction to improvement on things that you didn't know much about or want to expand.

Yes, there is a difference between paraphrasing and summarizing. Paraphrasing os taking a document and rewording it by changing up some of the words so that it is unique. Summarizing means reading something and then rewriting it completly in your own words. A paraphrase must also be attributed to the original source. Paraphrased materials is usually shorter than the original passage, taking a somewhat broader segment of the source and condensing it slightly. Summarizing are significantly shorter than the original and take a broad overview of the source material. The way to know which one is more appropriate to use in academic writing is to determine if the passafee is being specific with details. there is a difference between paraphrasing and summarizing. When summarizing you want to get everything you talked about and give a brief statement on the main points. Now when you’re paraphrasing you basically want to get whatever information you have read and put it into your own words. The way to determine which is most appropriate to use on an academic paper is to review what your reading and decide if you would like to focus on the whole topic or just specific points on the academic paper. Then with that information you could either summarize or paraphrase what you have read depending on what you want to do. If you just want to focus on the main

    To assure you are are not using too much paraphrasing and referencing quoted material, you should use "Revision: Cohesion" as stated on pp 363 in our text. Asking these specific questions will help you look through your essay very carefully to prevent mistakes such as; assuring information is relevant to the topic, transitions from paragraphs to new paragraphs as well as assuring you are properly referencing quoted material. Revision Cohesion helps you feel confident you have done your due diligence by assuring everything fits together well and makes sense. I would say that using the plagiarism checker would be another way to determine if you have a good balance between using your resource and your study material. When taking notes, I tend to write many things down. The problem is I would actually write it down very close to what I read. Then there are times I would paraphrase my notes, and then re-paraphrase them when I put them on my work. Then when I re-paraphrase sometimes, it can come close to the original text. This is a bad habit I'm trying to break so going forward, I'm just going to use the plagiarism checker to assure I'm not coming too close to what I'm reading in the text.…
