Week 1 Dq 1 & 2
DQ 1:Do you think that all six dimensions of health are equally important? Why or why not? As far as I'm concerned, 'health' refers to the choices that we make each day that affect our bodies and minds.
Our health changes according to everything that we do.
This includes things like the food we eat, the people we spend time with, and the intellectual stimulation we give our minds.
The effect that these have on our bodies are all included in the idea of 'health.
''Wellness' sounds more individual to me.
We should all be trying to reach our personal wellness goals.
Personally, I put the most effort into my physical health, emotional health, and spiritual health.
I think that everyone has a different point of view about what aspects of health are most important to them.

DQ 2:Does being physically healthy equate to having overall health and wellness?
Being physically healthy doesn't equate to having overall health and wellness.
Although being physically healthy is a big part of having overall health andwellness, there are other factors to consider when looking at the big picture.
I think you can be in good shape but still have other problems that can really take a toll on your health as a whole.
On the other hand, I think being physically healthy is a good way to build upon your overall health.
So even though being physically healthy isn't the only thing you should be thinking about, it is definitely really important.
I believe being physically healthy is just a little piece of the big picture.
I believe I am a physically healthy person in general, but there are some days I am drained emotionally, and mentally.
These days just being healthy physically just can't cut it.
In reading this chapter I think I do a pretty good job in keeping a healthy well rounded life.
Just being physically healthy isn't going to work if everything else is out of

One of the sides from the triangle is physical health. Physical health is the overall care of your body and how your body feels both inside and out. Ways to improve your physical health include exercising to keep your body fit and the cleanliness of your body. Eating a well balanced diet also improves your physical health because that's how you get the vitamins, minerals and the nutrition your body needs to function and grow. Some of the things that I do are that I try to eat more fruits and vegetables instead of junk food and drink plenty of water. I also go play sports with family and friends for fun and to get some exercise. These things are important because eating more healthy choices lowers the risk of getting diabetes and heart diseases. It also gives my body the energy to do daily activities to stay in shape.…

Most people will think of physical wellness as how they are feeling, whether they are sick, tired, or injured in some sort of way. According to Harper, he defines physical wellness as the ability to perform daily activities in a safe, capable, and efficient manner, as well as the physical capacity to respond effectively in unusual situations (2008). Harper further mentions that there are five components of physical wellness, such as cardiovascular fitness, muscular strength, muscular endurance, body composition, and flexibility. If a person does not have physical wellness then they are at an increased risk of a lifestyle disease such as hypokinetic disease, diabetes, and obesity. Qualities of a person that inhibits physical wellness, as discussed by the Mayo Foundation for Medical Education and Research are controlling your weight, combating health conditions and diseases, improves your mood, boosts your energy, sleep better, put the spark back into your love life, and physical fitness can be fun (2011). Furthermore the general goal is to aim for at least 30 minutes of physical activity every day in order to attain the above qualities (Mayo Foundation for Medical Education and Research, 2011). One way of getting started into a goal of being physically well is to check your Body Mass Index (BMI), hip to waist circumference, and partaking in…

If you are missing one of the six I think it affects the other areas of health. I see this with my son who has anxiety and panic attacks, when he has an attack then he is more likely to get sick like with a cold and then it takes him forever to feel his old self again, he says he is never really good. I know for me being spiritual healthy makes it easier for me to be emotionally healthy. I have to be happy and feel good about me with is hard but I am learning it is ok not to be perfect as long as you are happy with your body, mind and soul. I know that I feel all around better when I can work out in some way whether it be working out, working in the garden or taking a walk. It is important to take care of yourself by eating healthy, protecting your skin with sunscreen, not going outside when the pollen level is high for me. Enjoying a good movie that makes me cry can release stress and tense as well as watching a movie that makes me laugh so hard I cry. I try and relate to my co-workers maintaining social healthy relationships, by being open minded to be a good and understand friend and co-worker. At work I am in charge of the recycle program, if we can reuse, repurpose that is a way to save the environmental and that makes for a happy…

Keeping yourself healthy emotionally, physically, and spiritually will help you build; develop a happy, productive life. Studies were done and it was found that people who volunteer, go to church, or belong to a club are more likely to have better health than people who don't engage in social activities on a routine basis. This information that I read I found to be very interesting only because I guess I never realized how active someone can stay and be involved and you can maintain good health. People in this day and time have become so content with being relaxed in their own comfort zone they tend to forget how important it is to maintain adequate and good health. Now I do know there are things we can not prevent and if something was to happen with our health it would be up to us to try and maintaining it from getting worse or become nonchalant about it. The world today have plenty of individuals whom are not taking their lives seriously and that is why we have so many illnesses and people becoming sick.…

A healthy lifestyle can help reduce many diseases we face in our lives. Diabetes, for example is one of the many diseases people face in our society. Not maintaining a healthy lifestyle physically can cause high blood pressure, heart disease high blood cholesterol and may even cause one to have a stroke. Making up a chart of days to exercise along with a healthy diet and sticking with that chart can prevent our bodies from developing such diseases later in life. A lot of people believe that just because that they are young means that they can eat unhealthy and not exercise and later on in life they can start trying to eat healthy and exercising then they will be okay. That is not true. It can actually put a person’s body more at risk to having diabetes, heart disease or any other terrible disease. Physical activity and nutrition are partners when it comes to sustaining better health. Being active increases the amount of calories burned. As people age their metabolism slows, so maintaining energy balance requires moving more and eating less. To help a person to get in the routine of exercising can be challenging but with the help of the environment, it will not be that difficult. Going on nature walks or walks throughout the community just to pick up trash and clean up the neighborhood is not…

After reading Health Starts Where We Learn (2010), I would have to agree with the author’s thoughts on what they believe impacts our health. The environment in which we live, the level of education we achieve, our relationship with our work, and the importance of play all contribute to the health choices we choose. I believe it is important to watch what we consume, the amount of sleep we get, take part in physical activities, etc. in order to feel well both mentally and physically.…
