" As a long and violent abuse of power"| -Thomas Paine was an English craftsman and minor govt official whom emigrated Philadelphia late in 1774. -He offered vision of broad American independence. ---He wrote Common sense in 1776, which argued that the English constitution produced a corrupt king, rather than being the most perfect system of govt, which the british had claimed. -He also stated that being a member of the british empire was a burden, not a benefit. - Common sense was written in a form that could be read by all colonists, since other pamphlets at the time only appealed to those whom were educated. - Common sense ended up being one of the most influential political pamphlets ever produced, and contributed to the decision to cut ties with great Britain.| Abigail Adams 1776

She married lawyer John Adams in 1764, whom was a leading advocate for American Independence. - While John was in Philadelphia and Europe serving the American cause, Abigail stayed home and took care of their children and the house, and exchanged letters with him. - In the letters, she expressed that john remember the ladies when creating new laws. " The histoty of the present king of great britain"| On july 2 1776, congress officially declared the us an independent nation. Two days later, congress approved the decleration of independence, which was written by Thomas Jefferson and revised by congress. It consisted mostly of lengthy grievances against king george III. The biggest impact of the decleration was the preamble, which defined basic rights that no one could take away. In it, it included article 1, section 2 of the constitution which focused on those who represent the country and how they were chosen. -It said that the house of representatives would composed of elected members by people of the states.
