▪ Schopenhaur, “The world is my representation.” ▪ 50th Gate Quotes: - "[I]t was not the facts that were held under suspicion, but her credibility as a survivor. Unlike my father, she could never show her children the scars on her arm; hers were invisible, numbered in the days and years of her stolen childhood." - ‘Let their memory be bound up in the bond of life.’ - ‘So always remember it, and your children will remember it. They will survive, they will sing and they will dance.’ - ‘The final moments can never be retrieved by history.’ - ‘Freedom is not a happy ending. It is a flame that dances in remembrance, inside the blackness.’ - "My father is on pages forty-two and 109 of a Register of Jewish Survivors published by the Jewish Agency of Palestine in 1945 … He is listed as Josek Bekiermaszyn, officially arrested by SS on 28 October 1942, after which he was imprisoned in Starachowice, Auschwitz and Buchenwald." - “Does history remember more than memory?” - “You read, you read. Books, books, everywhere. But do you know how it feels? - ‘For my father, the rivers have not thawed, until now, when he words break out from their glacial silence, releasing a torrent whose flow runs backward into his darkest nights.’ - ‘Perhaps it all ends when I return memory to them. Only then can I assume responsibility for their stories. We can not always believe our memories. The text explains that memories are subject to our current bias, and therefore misinterpretation. If we could take the time to thoroughly analyze all of our memories, those good and bad, we may find that what we thought to be true may ultimately be false and what we held to be false may be the turning point of our lives. This type of rhetoric is exactly why people shy away from critical thinking and put so much effort into the magical thinking that was taught to us at an early age. If we can’t believe out own past experiences, that what do we have to hold on too? That fear has held us hostage for…

Freedom is a thing that people need to earn and fight for; without it, there will be many restrictions. For example, many people suffer after the Revolution in Iran, Satrapi started telling about some of their struggles: “...the government had imprisoned and executed so many high school and college students that we no longer talked politics” (Marjane Satrapi 84). This is showing how the students of different ages stood up to a law to make some changes. Other people did not keep on fighting, but instead, they let those efforts become useless; they did not work for their freedom. Another example is when Martin Luther King Jr. says in his “I Have a Dream” speech: “There will be neither rest nor tranquility in America until the Negro is granted…

In the play Hamlet, Prince Hamlet gave the one of most important soliloquy ever “To be, or not to be: that is the question:” this soliloquy is one of the best ever because of its location in the play and the devices and structures, Shakespeare used to amplify its meaning. The soliloquy is located in the Act 3, Scene 1, lines 64 to 98 and during the soliloquy, Hamlet is very troubled and in distressed about his future. Shakespeare magnified the placement of the soliloquy because first it is right after Prince Hamlet discoveries his father was murdered by his uncle Claudius, second that he has no one he can trust anymore and finally how can a player express a greater depth of feeling and expression for someone he does not even know. Shakespeare used many different devices ranging from antithesis, metonymy, metaphors, and parallel structure. The poetic structure used in the soliloquy is verse but the verse is used in a very complicated form because there are certain lines that more important than others lines in the soliloquy. The poetic devices and structures magnify Hamlet’s self-conflict in which he is facing in the soliloquy.
