It was December; cold and harsh. The Continental Army outside and risking frostbite walking through snow. Their spirits low after several defeats, the soldiers needed motivation. The British soldiers have been following the Continental Army all the way to New Jersey. Commander-in-chief George Washington had a plan though. He was going to cross the Delaware River and surprise the Hessians. The problem was, the army was suffering under terrible conditions. There were many ice storms and the Delaware River was full of several mini glaciers. This was the colonists last hope of winning the war. This, was The Battle of Trenton.…

The settlements of Virginia and Massachusetts were colonies established fairly close together, but the paths taken by the two leading up to their independence greatly differed. In the beginning Virginia had difficulty establishing a strong and permanent settlement; this lasted for nearly two decades. Massachusetts, in comparison, was extremely successful because of their lack of certain obstacles and their religious motivation. Freedom from religious persecution motivated the Pilgrims to leave England; Puritan merchants obtained a charter for the Massachusetts Bay Company. In addition a unique provision allowed for the company to be located outside of England. This gave puritans the opportunity to leave a status of a harassed minority and create their own self government in Massachusetts. In addition, the settlers made better decisions as a whole and in representation of their beliefs that shaped the development of their new settlement. Whereas Virginia was initially established to compete with Spain's settlement of New Spain. The London investors of the Virginia wanted to expand English trade and obtain a wider market for English manufactured goods. They naturally hoped for financial profit from their investment in shares of company stock.…

Many People believe that the Boston Massacre was a spur of the moment event. This is totally false. The French and Indian war put England in debt making England look for other sources of income. The king of England believed that the colonists should help to pay for the war because it took place in America. For a few months prior to the massacre, British troops had been stationed in Boston. The soldiers were in Boston to help with the collection of money to pay for duties on imported goods. Tensions were high between the townspeople and the soldiers. Colonist greatly resented the soldiers because they believed that there should not be military personal amongst them. The Bostonians took out their anger on the soldiers. In turn, the British troops were extremely unfriendly towards the people too. On many occasions, physical conflicts between the townspeople and soldiers.(2)…

In 1773 parliament passed the tea act in which the British pay less for tax to ship places. This made the prices of tea lower from Britain. Since Boston's tea would be more expensive nobody would buy it from them. The tea act was just another problem adding up between the colonists and britain. This made the colonists want to be independent from Britain. The colonists decided to rebel and dumb three hundred and forty two chests of tea into the Boston Harbor. The act was given the name the Boston Tea Party. Most of the British thought of the Boston Tea Party as an act of terrorism. Really the Boston Tea Party was just another step to independence for the colonists.…

The Boston Tea Party was a significant event in the years leading up to the American Revolution. By 1773 tensions were mounting as British America’s relationship with Mother England became increasing strained. The British Empire has secured victory in the French and Indian Wars but had run up an incredible war debt. King George III and the British Government looked to taxing goods in the American colonies as a means to replenish its treasury. It was in this the passing of the Tea Act 1773 that ignited a standoff and brought the issue of taxation without representation in Parliament to head. As a result, the colonists took action and began overt revolt to British rule in the Americas (Boston Tea Party Historical Society). This paper will explore the incidents that led up to the Boston Tea Party and its impact on subsequent events leading up to the American Revolution.…

The film was all about different controversies surrounding Rizal and the highlight was the Retraction Controversy. Did Rizal, in his last few days, ever wrote a letter withdrawing his attacks to the Catholic Church? If he did, what could have driven him to write that? The retraction letter is really controversial because if Rizal did write that, it would turn out that he does not deserve to be called a hero after all. The film makes me feel like I am in the Hispanic time because of the black and white feature. But this did not bring me to sleep because of the film’s humor that balanced a very serious topic: The Retraction Controversy. It was not an ordinary film about Rizal’s heroic life and suffering like many directors and filmmakers have done before. I salute every brains behind the film, for going beyond the normal and for making me see that Rizal is not that godly since he also had unrevealed secrets and unsolved controversies just like any human. He could have been inconsistent with his ideals because if not, controversies like this would not arise. His alleged inconsistencies made him a “Bayaning Third World”. I even think Rizal would agree as him being a “marupok”, he was just like any of us who had weaknesses and didn’t want to be perceived as god-like. The characters show that they respect their elders. Dr. Jose Rizal show this to his elder sisters Narcissa and Trining, to his elder brother Paciano, and to his mother. In spite of oppression by the Spaniards to the Filipino people, the director showed in the characters of Ricky Davao and Chris Villanueva as film makers that the Filipinos are joyful. In the characters of Dona Theodora (also called Dona Lolay), Trining, and Narcissa being God-fearing was shown by going to the church to attend the mass, and by performing the rosary. The family of Rizal sent him to school. Rizal has strong value of this because he made sure that he will finish Medicine. He didn’t just study here…
