Special Occasion Speech
Debbi Fields was from humble beginnings but with hard work and determination she became a shining example of a woman who achieved the American dream. By establishing a successful cookie business she accomplished something that most believed was impossible. Not only did her dream come true but it did so in a big way. Her rags-to-riches story should be an inspiration to all of us that through hard work and perseverance anything is possible.
As a child Debbi loved to bake cookies. She got the baking bug and a "taste" for entrepreneurship at the early age of 13 while working her first job with the Oakland A 's baseball organization. An important lesson learned from her family was that everyone needs to feel important. When Debbi was 19 years old she married, a Stanford graduate, and found herself in the unsatisfying role of a housewife. She found it difficult when at social gatherings friends would ask what she was doing with herself and then the patronizing looks she received when she had no answer to give. At the age of 20, Mrs. Fields took control of her life and decided being a housewife wasn 't enough. She decided to open a cookie shop despite discouragement from friends and family. Amazingly she found a banker to loan her $20,000 to open her first cookie shop despite the fact she was young and had no business experience. So on August 16, 1977, Mrs. Field’s Chocolate Chippery first opened its doors in Palo Alto, California. Halfway through that first day she had not made a single sale, so Mrs. Fields hit the street outside the shop and started handing out sample of her cookies. By the end of that first day, Mrs. Fields Chocolate Chippery rang-up $75 in sales. Soon people were streaming in to the shop to buy more of her cookies. Mrs. Fields’ company motto "Good enough never is", says a lot about her business philosophy. She worked hard and customer satisfaction was a priority. As the business grew, Mrs. Fields was very conscious of her regular

It’s not that easy being green. It’s not that easy being a frog, either. Some would say that he is the most awesome amphibian of all time. Others would proclaim him a puppet above the rest. His name and footprints are on a star at Grauman’s Chinese Theater, a rare honor given only to the best in Hollywood. It’s an even greater leap for an amphibian. You guessed it. I am here today to honor Kermit the Frog, a well-mannered, always positive, funny, frog who left the life of a quiet, peaceful swamp in the bayou to take on the world with his green philosophy. To some Kermit is an icon of hope for a greener, cleaner world, and to others he is an inspiration towards acceptance and kindness to his fellow creatures on Earth. To ALL who have ever heard Kermit speak or sing, he is the voice of wisdom and encouragement when they just need a smile.…

The fourth ingredient of Mrs. Fields’ recipe is people power, which translates to having positive people around you. Those positive people may either be people with similar goals as you or people who want to see you succeed at your goals. Having people around with similar goals will help to establish an environment where everyone is able to put forth the effort required to accomplish that goal. Likewise, having people around who want to see you succeed at your goals is useful because it helps to setup a network of support.…

    a. Attention Getter: It was an absolutely gorgeous spring day. The sun was out, the birds were chirping and there was a lazy warm wind pushing by. I was spending time with my grandparents as we knew that my grandpa didn’t have much time left. My grandpa who was ridden to a wheelchair wanted to spend what was left of this seemingly picturesque afternoon in the shade of the backyard. It was left to me to move him from his room which was three flights of stairs to the porch swing that was in the back. The task took me what I thought was an eternity and I was quite exhausted from the ordeal but we made it there unscathed. Once I had him comfortably positioned on the swing he looked at me in all seriousness and said; “I can’t hold it any longer you need to take me to the bathroom.” I got up and was going to assist him to his wheelchair but I caught his grin from ear to ear and he said, “Only joking.”…

You were born under a full moon. Other than the fact they were born quite literally howling at the moon, people born under a full moon tend to be idealistic, and spiritual. It is often their quest for the ideal that lead them to religion to seek clarity. Much as the full moon is at the half point in the lunar cycle, balance plays a large part in their lives. They are often divided between two sides, such as the need to conform and the need to be individualistic. Or they may be friends with two groups that are at odds with each other. Seeing both sides of a situation gives them a unique perspective that the wisdom of age will later allow them to capitalize on.…

During my 18 years, I’ve learned how important family is. You will never meet anyone who loves you as much as your family does and if anything, you’re family will always be there for you no matter what. My family supports me in everything I do. They have been there for almost all of my performances whether it be a school performance, a hula performance, a Kajukenbo performance or Colorguard, my family tries to make it all. All their time and money cannot express how much they love me because love is more than any of that. Love between a family is a special bond of time, laughs, smiles and memories. Love is something that family doesn’t have to say to each other because we already know and I am blessed to have a family that loves me in every way possible. I cannot stress enough about how much I love you.…
