WEEK 4 ASSIGNMENT SHORT CRITICAL REFLECTION PAPER
(1) Online education has evolved over the last ten years as much as the cell phone. Given this, what have been some of the major improvements and changes in the digital classroom? If someone had told me ten years ago that I would be going back to school at this age I would have laughed at them. Not only I am in the process of obtaining my college degree at forty, I’m pursuing this goal on an online environment. This just goes to show the major improvements and changes in the digital classroom. The number one choice that I chose to go back to school online was due to the fact that it is designed around my schedule not a classroom. This has been a major improvement of online learning as most people can relate to this. You can enter your digital classroom at any time and any where in the world. As it states in our text “online education or distance learning, is defined as the use of computer technology to link students and teachers together who do not share the same geographic location.’’ (Bowles, 2010, p.13). This is the defining reason I chose the digital classroom over the traditional classroom because as an Active Duty Service Member, I can continue my education anywhere I am stationed. Another change that took place within the digital classroom is the way the students and instructor interact with each other. When this type of learning first started, everyone had to meet at a designated set time but today there is no set time to meet. This type of learning is called “asynchronous learning, which is Ashford University’s method of delivery.’’ (Bowles, 2010, p.13).
