Act 1, Scene 1: Venice, A Street at night.
Iago complains to Roderigo about Othello giving the promotion to Cassio. They go to Brabantio’s house and claim his daughter has run off to marry Othello. Roderigo and Brabantio go and search for Desdemona. Scene 2: Venice, outside the Sagittary.
Cassio tells Othello the Senate needs him to go to Cyprus to fight the Turks. Brabantio finds Othello and accuses him of stealing his daughter. They decide to ask the Duke’s opinion. Scene 3: Venice, the council Chamber.
While the Duke is discussing war tactics, he is interrupted by Othello, Brabantio, Iago and Roderigo. Brabantio states that Othello has stolen his daughter, through the use of spells and witchcraft, and orders his arrest. Othello denies this and says that he and Desdemona are in love. He goes and fetches her in order to prove his case. When Desdemona arrives she is torn between obedience towards her father and her husband. She tells her father that her loyalty is now with her husband. The Duke asks Othello to go to Cyprus, he agrees as long as Desdemona can come too. Roderigo expresses to Iago of his love for Desdemona, Iago convinces him to seek revenge on Othello. Iago tells the audience that he will try to trick Othello into believing Desdemona and Cassio are having an affair.
Act 2, Scene 1: Cyprus, a quayside
Montano and gentlemen discuss the storm that just happened, the Turkish enemy ships were all destroyed, Cassio has arrived safely, yet Othello is still at sea. Desdemona, Iago, Emilia and Roderigo arrive and wait for Othello. Othello arrives, and then he leaves with Desdemona. Iago divulges to Roderigo that Desdemona is in love with Cassio, they plan to provoke Cassio into a fight. Scene 2: Cyprus, a street
Cyprus celebrates the defeat of the Turkish troops.
Scene 3: Cyprus, a room in the cast
Iago convinces Cassio to join the celebrations in order to get him drunk and violent. Cassio gets drunk quickly, Roderigo goes...
