Room for Improvement?

In today’s society, the improvement in science and technology has increased the standard of living for most people. As a result, many people feel that the most significant advancements in our lives have already taken place due to our high level of technology. However, I strongly feel that there is still a lot of room for improvement in people’s quality of life for the following reasons.

Firstly, science has not solved many of the world’s social problems such as inequality. To explain, there are numerous countries that still segregate, suppress, or shun certain groups of people despite all the advancement we’ve made. For instance, many minority groups are still treated unfairly in the USA today due to racism and prejudice. We also hear from the news that women in certain cultures still can’t receive a proper education or even have the right to suffrage. Since equal rights is an essential quality for a fulfilling life, much progress still needs to be made in this area.

Secondly, even though technology has physically improved the lives of many, a significant number of people around the world are still stuck in poverty and can do little to improve their conditions. To further elaborate, the poor has a lower chance of gaining higher education as many simply can’t afford to go to school and are trapped living in areas with high crime rates. Despite all the advancement in in technology and science, society sometimes turns a blind eye to these unfortunate people and they are often left trapped in a cycle of poverty and often crime.

In contrast, there is the opposing opinion that technological advances have enhanced the quality of living by improving people’s health and social well-being (CA). That is, people now live longer lives due to medical breakthroughs. They also live happier and more fulfilling lives as technology has made everyone’s life much more convenient and comfortable.
