15 children (11 six year olds and 4 five year olds)
Rationale- In this section you will explain the purpose of the activity and why it is appropriate for your children. A. Connection to prior learning and/or experience-Answer the two prompts below in terms of individual children and you whole class. a. Prior learning and prerequisite skills related to this activity- the children already know that plants/flowers being to sprout in the spring, however, a lot of them are not aware of some of the vocabulary terms that are associated with plants and they are not aware of the growth stages of plants. Something that was surprising to me was how many of these children that had not had any experiences with planting. b. Personal/cultural/community assets- I know that in this area there are a lot of families who have their own gardens. I also know that at this age children really notice when flowers are blooming and they get really excited about it. Children at this age LOVE to pick flowers (dandelions) for their teachers and moms! B. Learning Standards→ Objectives- Choose a maximum of two standards (Use state standards for PreK (Foundations) or Kindergarten (Common Core) for your practicum classroom). For each standard write at least one learning objective that states what the children will do in the specific learning activity that relates to the standard.
